Student pilots taking up passengers.

According to my CFI, American Flyers had a big issue with students picking up friends on long XCs then just flying around for hours never landing at the planned airport. I'm sure it still happens all the time.

I know a guy who took someone flying as a student pilot. He went on his round-robin cross country and had friends at one of his destinations... took one of them around the pattern. When he told me about it I told him that I didn't want to hear any more of it!

I took some family up about a month ago, went out came back paid etc. Came back the following week, like on monday and I had just flown on Sat., and they dispatcher pulled me aside and asked me why I had taken up passengers as a student pilot. I just laughed and said I got my license 8 years ago and am currentely working on commercial.
I guess it had happened recently at the place I fly at too and she was pretty nervous about it apparently.

My question would have been why they perceived you as a student pilot?

Kinda funny. . .know of a student who flew cross country as well. Had a passenger; got ramp checked. FAA is still working it.

She looks like a fun person to fly with:)

So remind me again how many bars are required to fly a 172?

Is his first name Lou? And his last name Zher?

Because that's what I think when I hear your story.

Sheesh, some people. If all you've got in your arsenal is "I'm a pilot, I can take you flying" then that's pretty sad.

My 3rd flight instructor was a very nerdy girly-man. After about a week of flying with him, he asked if he could bring his girlfriend along for a night flight. I was surprised he actually had a girlfriend. I didn't mind but it still seemed a little funny that he was bringing people along on my time....

WTF.
I even scrolled through all 29 posts and no picture of the supposed girl you took up.

Chick in the archer is not bad. Too bad she is holding onto the yoke vs. giving a view of the top shelf but what can you do.

I would have said no. Impress your date on your own time, not on mine.

And after reading this thread, I am so waiting for the "Dear Dough, I was busted taking passengers along with me as a student pilot on a solo flight. Do you think this will damage my chances of working as an airline pilot?"

I swear, if I were Dough, I'd so totally toy with those d-bags.

Ehh, you live and learn I guess. Like I said, he was a new instructor and I was pretty wet behind the ears so I just went along with it.

I'd feel like an •, but would probably say no as well. I took a friend up once along with my instructor and having the extra person in the back really messed up the way the airplane felt.
