Looking for an ANG unit

Hello everyone,

I am currently in the process of preparing to get my tests taken and a UPT application package assembled. I am currently looking to fly any fix winged aircraft (leaning more towards Air Lift/Refueling), in any location.

I'm contacting multiple units from here in Florida to all the way in Alaska and running into a lot of outdated emails and phone numbers and having a hard time getting a hold of human beings.

I'm wondering if there are any guard pilots, or any folks who are part of a guard unit that could help me out and share any information about their unit, people I can contact, phone numbers, UPT selection board deadlines, anything.

Again, I am not picky about aircraft or location. If you've got planes, I want to be there. I am also open to AF Reserve

Thanks everyone for any help you can share. I greatly appreciate it.

Actually, we're a little more about person on person guidance.

There are a number of guard guys on the site that will probably answer the question when they see it.

baseops.net. Go to the forums. There is a guard/reserve forum. Scroll through those and eventually you'll find "Guard/Reserve units hiring." There is some good information in there, including several attachments with contact info that I left up there a while back.

It is not easy to get a hold of people. My suggestion is to call whatever unit you can find and have them transfer you to Ops. Try to get a hold of the squadron commander or DO. A lot of units will have a Master Sgt collecting the packages. This person will definitely help you, but is not likely to get you an interview. You need to know the people actually making the decisions.

If you're an airline guy, ask everyone you fly with.

I will post if my unit ends up hiring anytime soon, but it probably won't be for a few years.

Thanks for the info, I will definitely look into that!

I didn't try this but it may be a possibility: the green AF/D.

Each airport that has an ANG squadron on the field usually includes a comment about "PPR required parking ANG ramp and VIP Visitors. Contact Ops DSN 287-4534 or C 508-999-1234." If you live nearby, ask if you can come down for a tour or visit.

They probably won't ask about how you got the number; just call and tell them you're interested in flying for them and wanted to know if they have a hiring board coming up. They do post on BaseOps under the "jobs" section, but one main thing these squadrons look for is initiative. Like mhcasey said, it's difficult to get in touch. Be persistent.

You said you wanted to fly any plane at any location, but if you ask about specific units here on the forum, I'm sure someone can help put you in touch with someone.
