Sinus blockage

I have had a sinus infection for a few days. Went to the doctor and was given a script for Amoxicillin. He wanted to give a steroid shot, but I refused as I am not sure if it is allowed. The steroid was Dexamethasone 8MG and Depomedrol 80MG. Are these "safe" to take? The only thing I could find with a quick Google search was that steroids for non-disqualifying conditions are allowed after a 24 hour period.

Did a quick search on the AOPA website in the FAA Approved Medicine database... The Dexamethasone (Decadon) is listed as approved by the FAA. Could not find the second one. Is there a different "brand" name it goes by?

You might want to check with an AME?

They are both OK. The issue is how symptomatic the sinus infection is and will you get significant pressure change causing pain? Be sure you don't feel any pressure in the sinuses and fly.

If you must fly, carry Afrin with you in case you feel plugged. Try to use it before you fly but do not use it for more than 5 days at a time.

Thanks. From what the Doctor told me about each one (side effects, how they basically work) I was pretty sure they were ok. Just had to make sure.

As I have said before, it is not necessarily the the medication but the underlying reason it is prescribed that keeps you on the ground.
