Help with flight to KFFA

Hello everyone,

I'm working on my instrument rating and looking to make a cross country down to KFFA from 1G0. My instructor and I are planning to fly down friday afternoon and leave sunday morning. I have a few questions though.

1.) Is the 24 hour parking limit enforced? And is there any kind of fee(Parking/Tie-down/Landing)?

2.) Does anyone know a decent, cheap hotel two college students can afford?

3.) Where is the closest place for fuel?

And any other information you have from past trips would be nice!

If you can ever catch him out at the airport, ask DS. He went there last summer I believe.
 
My first post... YAY!

I went down there last June as part of my 282 9 hour block.

1. When I was there, the 24 hour limit wasn't enforced. However don't quote me on this because we didn't stay much longer than 24 hours and we were the only airplane on the ramp. If the airport was busier, I imagine they might enforce it. Come to think of it though, the airport is completely unattended so I can't imagine who would enforce it.

2. I don't remember exactly where I stayed. However I can tell you that you really can't find a hotel for less than $100 a night.

3. ^^^ The closest fuel stop is indeed Dare County - KMQI. Its about 5-6 miles south of FFA.

FYI, its a really cool place to go. If you can, go to a restaurant called Awful Arthurs.... Great food. =)

Yeah this is for my 282 9-hour block too. I usually go down every year for vacation but not the past two summers and I'm dying to get back. I remember Awful Arthurs, great food!

Thanks for the help, I might have more questions if I run into you at the airport.
 
PM me or Tlewis95, I'm at work right now, but we planned a flight from DPA to FFA and we should still have all the info on it.

Why wouldn't you just PM him instead of posting for him to PM you? :dunno:

I went there a few years back on the anniversary date and it wasn't crowded on that day so I can't imagine a day that would be busy. Might be wrong though. :confused:
As far as teh 24hr parking I can't tell you but we had mx issues and had to call an A&P from a nearby airport,Dare County I think-whichever one is just across the bay, and we didn't get out of there until dusk. So we were definitely the last to leave as it's not lighted (lit?) and there were no other aircraft on the ramp still so maybe it is enfored, or just no one tried on that day to see if it gets enforced.
It's a fairly popular tourist hotel so I imagine it has a good amount of hotels nearby, but you would need transportation so maybe look into a cab company.
We nearly had to stay overnight because it was getting dark but made it out just in time, I kinda wish we hadn't though as it would have been fun to go through all the hassle of figuring all this out on the fly. :rawk:
Really cool place, hope you have a good trip and enjoy it.
 
ECG (Elizabeth City, NC) is where I had my overnight and fuel stop planned for a trip DPA and I were going to make. (and still want to make)

(just realized... 1000th post. yay)
