I just saw on the news a Continental flight bound for Newark has a medical emergency. Don't know the details.

Yeah I saw a Twitter tweet from our local NBC affiliate about it. No reports of any substance yet.

Direct "Breaking News" quote 2 minutes ago:

"The aircraft is currently flying over Canada with the two first officers at the controls! Our prayers are with that flight for a safe landing!" :eek:ZOMG!

Good grief. [is there a face-in-palm-steveC-style emoticon yet]?

Sucks to hear.

Its good to hear that people still don't think first officers can fly.

I hope for our sake the f/o's are able to taxi cause it'll contribute to that misconception if they need to be towed off the runway.

I hate the media, OMG!!!!

Sucks for the CA, but otherwise its a normal flight people!!!! Get over it! Nothing changes!! we've had WAYYYY too much media attention this year, focus on something else!!!

Can't wait to hear the details, I wonder if he was over 60, that would bring that old age limitation question back into the game.

CNN is saying 61...but the way they report anything aviation related, who knows. I'm sure it'll ignite at least a little bit of debate on the age 65 rule.

65 isn't that old anymore, besides that's why we have two guys up front.

I first heard of it on the Mancow and Cassidy show. They claim that "plane's can almost fly themselves"... AS IF! Let's see, if crew adeptness did not matter then the Flight 3407 incident wouldn't have occured.

If there starts to be a raging controversy over age 60/65 that isn't such a bad thing for you young whipersnappers is it? Sucks for the guys that needed that 5 years to try and build a retirement due to lost pensions, and that have probably taken a hit since the downturn...but how would the hiring outlook and furloughs be today if age 65 hadn't gone through?

Right. I'm not claiming that it should go one way or another. Whether age 65 is right or wrong I'm sure the media will take the issue and turn it into something bigger than it is.

How is the media on this so quickly? I mean, who tells them?

I had a gear failure once, I called GROUND instead of tower just in hopes that a media helicopter wouldn't catch wind and start filming.

Well, if I recall right, last time they lowered the age limit to 60 it created some openings at the majors which pulled the folks in from regionals, which in turn pulled the folks in from cfi cadre etc...in any case, I think it both creates some oportunities for young guys and screwes the old guys

That was pretty clever. I too would prefer if the media didn't jump on me in a situation like that.

Isn't that like saying "Mrs. Lincoln, otherwise it's a normal play".
