What is going on at EWR?

So yesterday my dad decides for us to eat as a family at IKEA Elizabeth, I don't really care for the food although it is good, but any of you that know the area know that it is directly across for the threshold of 4R at EWR minus I-95, so I am stupid happy watching planes depart 22R and partially land at 22L when I see this Continental 738 go down a taxiway parallel to the Runway and just stay there for about 10 mins, It did not look like an emergency or anything and I have seen this before with various planes that park at that exact same spot for a while, what is going on?

It could be a few things.

He could be waiting to cross the inboard runway. They'll launch departures until they have all of the crossing points filled up with aircraft, and then send them all through. It can take a while for all of those aircraft to show up if the arrival rate isn't that high, though. So if you come in during an outbound push, you can wait for a while.

He could have been working out a mechanical issue. I've parked and worked things out before.

He could be waiting for a release for departure. They'll put people down Papa (the middle taxiway between the 22's) and put them at the end if they're trying to work on a release for them. As soon as they get it, they launch.

These were flights that just landed and they would go kinda past the threshold in between the two runways though... It wasnt any of the slanted taxiways that you use to cross 4L/22R

Do you think this was the time out thing I hear you guys talk about some times?

Time out? You mean the penalty box?

That's ORD, kid :)

Newark has the ball park, and a bunch of other places for aircraft to sit. You go to the ball park (or penalty box, or whatever the airport calls it) to sit waiting for a release out of the airport. You won't head over there unless the entire airport is almost shut down and waiting to get out.
