Pilots who annoy me...

We have a local guy that has to tell his life story on the radio and telling ATC what he is going to do rather than having them direct him.
Comanche local guy to tower: "Tower, comanche 1234 is on foxtrot ready to taxi and we have done our run-up, gonna kick the tires and light the fires, We are gonna go over to XYZ for their delicious catfish dinner and my wife is going to have the ribs. I think we will take some pictures of the nearby river. Also I think we are going to fly by a few local towns at low level..."etc for about a good minute or two. Meanwhile I'm going around because I wasn't cleared to land by ATC because this guy is yapping.
This same local guy wears his nomex green flight suit coveralls, gloves, and boots while flying around.

That guys sounds pretty funny but I guess not if you're having to hear his life story. ATC should tell him to shut it in a polite way, of course.

Maybe I'm a bitter person, but there never seems to be a shortage of pilots on the other end that annoy the hell out of me.

For example:

Pilots who are flying an ILS, on an IFR flight plan, announce out of no where that they are now "IMC" Congrats, no one cares. (I can understand if ATC gives traffic call, but out of nowhere? common)

Pilots who abuse the hell out the air to air freq and announce their position every 30 seconds when no one else is around for miles. Don't worry I think you sound really cool on the radio too :sarcasm:. Nickel up or go-guns if you want to talk to someone at length, especially when there are ten thousand 172's in a square mile of airspace who actually should be talking to each other to avoid making the local headlines.

And these a-holes make me want to pull over to the side, get out of my airplane and beat them senseless. Pilots who fly 500' and 500' offshore in what ever weekend warrior plane they can rent. That giant 40x100 sign with a beer bottle on it moving at the same rate as me gives me a reason to be that low, what is yours?

And finally, If I can see you before you see me when I'm towing a banner, I should be able to take your license.

Please feel free to add.

So if I don't do these things, I'll be a perfect pilot?:)

"Traffic in the area, please advise." I can stomach "traffic in the pattern, please advise" a little better.

"Airport advisories?" Followed by "airport advisories?" Followed by "AIRPORT ADVISORIES?" Followed by "someone tell me how to land this plane!"
There was a guy at our airport who ground looped a tailwheel because he landed with a tailwind. He tried to blame the Unicom for not providing him with the wind direction. Who trained these people?

"Clear of the active."

And pilots who come into my bar and tell me they fly for Delta. When asked which plane they fly, they respond, "CRJ 200." Really?

Isn't one of the required reporting points when IFR in a radar environment underforcasted weather?

There are a number of condidtions in which a controller is required to solicit pireps. This information is found in FAA-O 7110.65 in section 2-6-3. Two of these conditions are a ceiling of less than 5000 ft, and visibility of less than 5 miles. Having read the .65, I will give controllers this information. I am in agreement with some previous posts such as pilots saying "left final", or "cancel IFR at this time" (as opposed to 4 minutes from now). Its actually pretty funny

In my experience, flight majors are some of the most down to earth people. They also present a more professional attitude than even most engineering students.

However some of them do things that make me want to grab a "tool" stamp and smack it right on their forehead.

For example, lets say you are in english class and there happens to be one or two other flight guys in there. As soon as you or the other walks into the door, they will immediately ask you "hey did you see that guy in the pattern do xxxxx?" or "so did you fly xxxxx?" without even so much of a hello or how are you. Then they will proceed to tell you what they heard while they listened to LiveATC for 6 hours the other night or some other tiresome flight related talk. Ok I get it, you live and breathe aviation every minute of your life. I like flying just as much as you do but I have other interests as well buddy.

They will also sometimes present a ignorance towards what a commercial pilots life is really like. They sign up for the major without listening to what people have to say on jetcareers or something like that to peek into the glorious lifestyle we call working for an airline. All they know is that someday they will be living it up flying a 747 in less than 20 years :sarcasm:.

I also get annoyed by pilots who complain about stupid stuff that doesnt really matter.

I used to fly (I just left my old job) for the one of the most busy air taxis at PAMR, where UAA's flight training is located. Needless to say, I listened to a lot of "I'm a professional piloting major with 60hrs," or whatever when I was in the halls doing other classes. The best time for me was right before I left when two of the people in the local ROTC came into my work talking trash about how dangerous 135 was, and then expected me to concur. They asked me, "so what do you do here? work the ramp or something?" To which I replied, "yep, I'm a student pilot," about that time, my boss came over and said, "Hey Pat! you've got a 10:30 to beluga, 5 pax!" I grabbed my trip sheet and walked out of the office with my 5 and their mouths agape.

A week later I saw them before calculus, and they gave me a weird look, and they said, "did you really fly them?" And I said, "yep, I fly for them, and I've got about 2000TT"
