FAA vs. NTSB

The FAA is not completely immune from oversight. Congress can overrule them and/or pass legislation which can limit or take certain powers away from them. I've seen it threatened a few times, but never seen congress go through with it.

Our biggest help against the FAA is the various GA/airline Alphabet soup organizations that lobby congress to keep them and TSA in check.

After the Colgan accident, Peggy Gilligan said it was not a matter of "if", but "when".

Which would be 180 degrees out wrong.

Pilots commuting is not a problem. Paying them so little they can't afford a place to sleep the night prior to a trip is.

I strongly believe that if those Colgan pilots had been properly compensated, they would not have had to do as they did.
