A note

I'll say it again...even if you expect a job to be a "stepping stone" doesn't mean acceptable terms and conditions that you could be comfortable for the rest of your career should be lowered, because your prediction could be wrong....

Some good points are actually made here. Nobody cared about improving conditions when Colgan was just a two year stop on the way to the big boys. As proven by the first union push being voted no. It begs the question shouldn't pay/qol always be important, even if you are only going to be at a place a short time?

Baj seems to be a very smart man. I would vote for him for president.

I've been here for a while now. I will say that Seggy was gung-ho the first time around on the organizing committe if I remember correctly. That was prior to his interview with Delta, and he was just as active the second time around in organizing at Colgan.

I do not always agree with Seggy (user fees), but it is unfair to call him anything but consistant with his trade unionism and his activities.

The first union drive was very close to voting in ALPA. If I recall correctly we only missed it by 4 or so votes. To me that did not prove that nobody cared about improving conditions. Looking back now, I believe that actually proved that a large percent of the pilot group did care about improving conditions at Colgan.

worthless without pix!!!!! ;) :D

I was just PM'd a pic of the happy couple. I know it breaks etiquette to share a PM, but I just can't help it....... :buck:

Seggy put his money where his mouth is and Colgan couldn't have a better leader, in my opinion.

We can sit back behind the keyboards, shake our fists about "what we OUGHT to do" and get nothing accomplished in the internet world, or get off our duffs and press for positive change in the real world.

I wish more people would get involved rather than just sarcastic snipes at one another on the internet about whose donger is bigger.

The same could be said about Seggy making this thread. There are plenty of people doing what needs to be done to try to make things better, they just don't advertise it to get praise on a message board. The problem isn't the amount of people not being involved, the problem is the amount of people who will skirt regs, bend rules and do things that are less than questionable to keep or get a flying job.

Turning this profession around isn't a popularity contest. We as a group, need to start holding people's feet to the fire. I would bet a good 80% of our problems could be solved by simply bringing attention to those that willingly operate outside the scope of regulations, opspecs and generally accepted principles.

/note
This is not an attack on Seggy, merely pointing out what I believe to be the bigger problem.
