8 hours of training in 24

So Ive never really come close to 8 hour limit but I am now and Im having an issue figuring out when to start the clock and when to stop it.

Flight from 8pm to 10pm 2hrs
8am to 12pm 4hrs
2pm to 4pm 2hr
Total 8hrs

I can then do another flight starting at 8pm the next day correct? That "24 block" has expired. However it can only be 2 hours because the 8am and 2pm flights are still "active in the consecutive 24 hours".

Sorry it sounds like a stupid question but I obviously need to have this correct.

Thanks for the patience

Sounds like your on the right track. The 24 hour clock is a rolling clock. I've seen people draw a line, draw blocks to show their flight time and then take a 24 hour "ruler" to see if they can fly. When you fly 8 hours every day it can be tricky to keep up with legal.

i have run into it a few times, but pretty much whenever you started the previous day is when you can start again and if there was a gap then keep it mind as well or you will bust the 8hrs

Think of this reg as a "look back" reg.

If you look back at the past 24 hours, no more than 8 of those hours can be spent providing flight instruction.

it's kind of like IFR currency...as the hours roll by, so does the available 8 hours to work based on the previous 24.

I've hit the 8 in 24 before. It's freakin' exhausting. And uh a friend of mine went over when coming back from a 6+ hour cross country after doing a dual flight the night before. This guy didn't know until he totalled everything up at the end of the day.

Back in the day all the way 3 years ago. I used to schedule 12 hours worth of students. Usually 5 flights and a discovery or 5 flights and 1 ground student. Too many guys would only schedule 8 hours worth but you'll never fly 8 hours. Sometimes I was exhausted but i did it to pay the bills and get the heck out of there. Averaged about 100 hours a month except for when i found out I got hired at Airnet and needed to build time to goto class. 140 hours in 29 days. :nana2:
