I agree, Detroit has a lot of areas you don't want to be caught at alone or at night. It also has some nice areas too. The city has a lot of problems and unfortunately the citizen don't want real change and vote these idiots into office...
 
I want to say, Since your coming back, we'll leave the lights on for you. Hope your ready to see the state tree in full bloom(orange cones EVERYWHERE). 696 just reopened, but will be shut down again soon. Farmington is down between 13 and 14. 94 is under construction, 275 is. Ohh, and 75 is shut down from downtown towards Toledo. I think they did that to keep people from moving out of the state.

Other than that, things are fine and dandy. Big three on the brink of bankruptcy, suppliers shutting down. If your looking for a home, prices couldnt be better. My cable installer's mom just bought a 5 bedroom house in detroit for 9 grand. Thats a 50% savings! Job market for flying is super bleak. CFI's who have a job dont have enough students, Part 135 ops are down(refer back to suppliers shutting down), etc.

I somewhat regret coming back, but family is family. Hopefully on the upswing of the economy things get better. But I doubt Detroit will get any kind of the funds New Orleans got after they got wiped out. Feels like a hurricane swept thru and nobody cares about us, about the state. I am personally not going to feel bad in 20 years when the rest of the country is screaming to tap into our fresh water lakes, just say no. Suckers. lol. Im not bitter, no, by no means. lol.

We'll throw a party for you when you get here(M&G SE Mich on May 16th). BYOB. I got the burgers.

Did you forget the sarcasm tag? Michigan's gov't is horrible and has pretty much run this state into the ground and wants to raise taxes again...Keep it up Granholm and drive more people out of this state...
 
Sarcasm tag? I dont know how to do that one, but it is implied. :)

My wife however is getting a better job, but she is in the health care biz. I should have been a nurse. lol. But I guess it will work well in the long haul, with the way the Aviation biz operates.

But glad to have you guys coming back, Michigan needs all the tax revenue they can get. :)

Engler did more to run me out of the state than anyone, to be honest. Things started to run downhill during his tenure, Granholm has simply had to deal with the aftermath of his mistakes.
 
Granholm is awful, but Michigan is still the only state I'd want to live in. Hopefully next time we can get someone in there that knows how to fix the economy and keep business from leaving.
 
I think you guys give way too much credit to the office of the governor. The things that drive this state, both good and bad, are largely beyond the governor's control or influence in my opinion.

Come on Jtrain, that is as bad as the people still blaming everything on Bush. At somepoint the current admin local and federal need account for themselves...

BTW did you know that Granholm is clearing the way for the util companies to raise your rates so she can have them offer lower rates to businesses... If I didn't have family here we would be out of here..

I would have liked to see DeVoss give it a shot. We need somebody that doesn't see taxes as the answer to everything....
 
I was going to rant about Granholm, but decided against it. :)

Kilpatrick? She could have stepped in and stopped that fiasco, but no, she wanted to save face with the democratric party. how much did that cost us? businesses? investments? etc. IMO Detroit is corrupt, and their agenda does not benifit the surrounding communities. mini-rant is over.

I lived through both governors, Eric, I saw what happened to the state while I was there.

You may have missed it, but Detroit was hosed long before Kilpatrick.
