Badges? We don't need no stinking Badges!

Just went in to get fingerprinted and background checked... The crazy thing is if an FBO worker lets someone out without proper ID, the employee AND FBO both get fined!

So is there any clarification yet of what's required of transient pilots at which airports? Any hard-set regulation we can go to in the CFR?

We just need to have them on our persons at all times but it does not have to be displayed.

What is the point of the stupid badge then?!?!!?!?

That is so they can make it up as they go and make you pay a fine for a reg they just invented 5 minutes before you landed. :sarcasm: :sarcasm:

I think as pilots, we are headed towards a singluar federal badge. That will allow us to be used all over the US.

Don't know if this has been suggested or not. Why not put a picture on our pilot licenses. Model it after a drivers license. Then it can serve as a pilot license, photo id, and federal badge. That would work, right??

Yes, and no, then every so often we would have to get reissued our pilot certificate because you change. If they just did a national id then the wouldn't need to go back and reissue all the certificates already out there. Or better yet, have FlightSafety or SimuFlight do it from their training centers. That becomes a problem with updating the ID every so often, I sure don't want to have to pay for a new certificate with my picture on it. But I would be willing to pay $10 for a national ID that I now get to use everywhere. The only problem is how long does the badge last? One year, Two? or Five?

I don't think they want to think this far ahead.

I've noticed that the TSA here are terrible. It's like they have nothing better to do. It takes less time to get through MSP security than in BZN or GTF. There are hundreds of flights at the big hubs and they are usually are only screening ONE flight here in MT.

TSA in BZN is FRIGGIN rediculous. I was jumpseating once and got detained by TSA. The guy said my epauletts were backwards.:confused:WTF So I asked him what he was talking about. This is not a joke. Let's see if I can explain it. He said, the space from the last bar to the edge of the epauletts are normally two different sizes. On one side of the epaulette it's about thumb width, on the other side it's about a half thumb width. The thumb width size side is suppost to be in towards the neck and the half thumb width size side is suppost to go away from you. He [very cleverly] noticed that on mine, the thumb width size side was facing the wrong way. I laughed at him out loud, really loud. Took one off, showed him that the sides of my epaulettes were BOTH thumb width size. Then I told him "Good job though. You're a regular Sherlock Holmes. Way to notice every little detail. You are truly protecting Americans everywhere. You need a mask like the Lone Ranger." I was pretty POed. That didn't make him happy of course. So he detained me because I was suspicious, my epaulettes weren't "regulation size". So over the next half hour, he's on the phone with I don't know who, figuring out that I'm not a terrorist. I hate TSA....:banghead:

Is this for real? The airports I fly out of (KTPA, KPIE, KSRQ and KAPF) would all seem to fit the description. I'm not paying for 4 badges every year. This is a joke, right? Right?

See, the sad thing is that I don' think it is a joke. I don't think it's even a CFR or going through the standard NPRM process.

At our airport it is no joke. This stuff (damn profanity filters:D) is real. The TSA has way to much power. They seem to have the "do what ever i want and get away with it badge." (there is my Transformer's quote).

One of my coworkers was talking to the airport guy who was issuing the badge about why they were doing this. They said that the TSA wants to build a data base of people who work at or around the commercial operations. That way they can keep an eye on the suspicious ones.

WHAT TERRORIST IN THEIR RIGHT MIND WOULD SIGN UP FOR A BADGE!??!! They would either fake one or steal someone's who looks like them.

Thats like the TSA saying "hey terrorists, please tell us that you are a terrorist so we can identify you as suspicious"

As of now transient traffic at BZN does not need to have a badge.

Can't a terrorist fly to BZN from an airport with out scheduled flights who don't require the badge?

This whole thing just seems like a huge HUGE inconvenience to every one, with little to no security benefits.

I think this whole badge thing is ridicules. Are'nt you more likely to call the cops if you see a suspicious guy WITH OUT A BADGE on the ramp then a suspicious one with a badge? If the guy has a badge then you will probably think to your self, hey he must belong here he has a badge.

The icing on the cake is that we don't have to display the stupid things. Then what the heck is the point of having them?

Write and Call your congressman. If they get enough calls and emails they can't ignore it. The one thing I have learned is that the TSA doesn't do anything properly until congressmen find out they are screwing up, wasting money, or violating federal laws that are currently on the books.

stand up now for yourself or prepare to grab your ankles...

It's like tryin to warn people about the boogie man... No guys, I swear! He's real and he wants to take away your airport!
I wish that wasn't true but I believe that to be one of the best statements about the whole situation. If we cold only get two or three congressional leaders on our side...

Sadly, this is what we wind up with when we have nothing written down to go by, but things happen anyway? It's really hard to get congress on our side when we can't reference anything...
