Par Approach

Are there any airports near Dallas that have a PAR approach. I'm trying to show one of my students. :rawk:

That isn't one of those revolving military NOTAMs that even though there is an end date they keep updating it to NOTAM that out?

What happens normally with things like PAR radars, etc being OTS...they just never get around to fixing them It may be one like you describe, but I remember out here the PAR was such a pain for them to man (few qualed people), that when it did go down for whatever reason; they took their sweet time fixing it.....hence the revolving NOTAM.

I suppose he could call them up on the landline and ask; it may be one of these.

When I was flying out of Scott (Aero Club) they had quite a few that were revolving. I could tell when there was going to be a new one issued. Just never did like the fact that they never just truly NOTAM'd it. It was always in the MIL NOTAMs as well, not the Civilan NOTAMs.

And those revolving NOTAMS were always for the same timeframe (45 days, 60 days etc). lol. It's as if they're too lazy to address the problem. Moreso at AFBs since PARs aren't a priority at AFBs as they are at NAS/MCASs.

YEAH, Thank God I am flying freight now. Long live the OOTSK! Learned a lot at Scott though. Tons of fliers that didn't just want to fly a desk.

LOL! Potential FOD problems? And how would that ever be corrected? There's always potential FOD problems! Good example you found....:D

I have never flown one in many years of commercial aviation... but flew them all the time in UPT and while flying hercs for many years. I can tell you this.... there is NOTHING like the calm soothing voice of a good "final" controller when the wx has gone to crap and its night etc. et al....

Its like dancing with a partner.... they lead ..you follow..... and makes for some great flying experiences.

MAC 201.... Lajes Final ... controller how do you hear?....
LOUD and Clear
MAC 201..... Lajes Final controller ... you are 12 miles from touchdown.. slightly right of course... do not acknowledge further transmissions....turn left heading 303....

Ah... the memories....

And some of the GCA controllers are exceptionally good at what they do. I've had where I'm coming down nearing short final, and the guy will still be talking me down with extreme precision... "slightly right of course and correcting, on glidepath, 1 mile from touchdown. On course, on glidepath, approaching decision height. At decision height, on glidepath, crossing the airfield boundary...."

Damn good. PAR accuracy is +/- 25' of runway centerline, so a good controller can really get you in well.
