Berlin. Great city! If the beer garden is open in the tiergarten, it's a great place to graze. It's "Cafe am Neuen Zee" and the front desk can give you way better directions that I can! But if you continue down that path, you'll eventually work your way to Kurfurstendam strasse and it's a pretty decent area for people watching, and if you want to bring the wife back something interesting, "check out the shops" adjacent to the Zoolischer train station. If you walk much past that, you might get accosted by former eastern-bloc women wearing those long white boots.
But the basic walking circuit is handy for the first day. Potsdamer platz, Brandenburg gate, down to the Reichstag and a quick (and generic now) stroll up Unter Den Linden. I'm not really a fan of Prussian-style German food so it's hard to suggest any "must go to" restaurants, but the beer is delish.
I found some really interesting and one-of-a-kind bars in Berlin, but I'll have to dig through my notes to try to remember how to find them!
"House of 100 beers" - lame. Food's mediocre, spendy and too many flight attendants want to drag you there and tell you all about their kid the soccer player. There's a decent place to eat on the other side of the holocaust memorial, I can't remember what it's called, but if you go in a small group, you can usually get in. DO NOT show up with 11!
You don't seem the type anyway to do that, ha! Maxilmillians, like some will suggest is lame too -- any foreign country where you walk into a restaurant and you're greeted with "Delta? Continental?" is terrible.
