User Fees a good thing?

I think it may be time to unsubscribe to this thread. There are so many things being thrown around out of context, and one sided.

On a lighter note, one that should help to dispell user fees a little more. I listen to KNX1070 (LA area), and heard that the airlines are actually reciveing better scores this year, than last year. And the reasons behind it is because the AIRLINES are flying less, and their services are less stressed to deal with how busy they can get.

Velo: Why don't you start paying to play as well. Mabey if the airlines paid feul taxes, we woulden't need user fees. And take your "military is better attitude" to a military forum. The majority of us don't care. BTW, WE PAID FOR YOUR FLIGHT TRAINING IF YOU GOT IT IN THE MILITARY (tax payers). YOU SHOULD BE THANKFULL, NOT POMPAS! Why do you want to smash GA. Don't you know the reason people want to fly in the first place. I guess your just there to make a paycheck and go home. This is a real question, not flame bait. What in your mind, makes you better than a GA pilot? If you don't want to answer here send me a PM.

Jtrain: Ever heard of renting an airplane? You don't need to own to fly a Cessna. Thats what I do a couple of times a month. And I have a family to support as well. Flying doesn't have to be, and shoulden't be a rich mans hobby. My wife and I, combined, make less than 65k a year. And yes, I can still afford to fly for pleasure. You can pick a a descent, older, but descent 310 for 65-85k a year. Finance it for 20 years, and bada-bing. Average joe can affrod that plane now. Put a partner in the plane, and 1/2 the cost. Or join a club. $1500-3500 start up fee's, and $55 to $105 an hour wet for a 172. Or mabet $125 for a Saratoga, that you can put six in and fly to Tahoe for the weekend, and split the bill, to make it cheaper to go round trip.

I don't remember who it was who was ranting about the super rich owner who fly's his friends around in his Citation. But get real....... How many owner-pilots actually have their very own CJ. And how many of them are actually flying on any given day at that. I bet if you looked today, there is no more than one person flying in a personal citation for pleasure. Buisness, for sure. Pleasure, I highly doubt it.

Lets be real with our arguments, not point out the extreame end of the spectrum. GA is not the red headed stepchild. If it wasn't for GA, the airlines would not exist today.

Thanks, but military people pay taxes, too.

Yeah, they tend to forget that.

Sorry, guys, but if you want to use the services, pay for them. If not, fly VFR and use airports like Chewelah. Seems simple enough to me.

No one is forcing you to fly your bug smasher out of Boeing Field, Long Beach or Orange County. You all act like the entire aviation world will collapse if there are user fees.

Guess what? It won't. You'll adapt or you'll find another hobby. Simple as that. And the airspace will be less cluttered with GA pilots and their exhorbidant accident rate.

Just curious, what would you propose?

Military people do pay taxes, and so does everyone else.

The point being that everyone has paid for the flight training of people who have learned to fly in the military.

Not knocking that a bit, not at all. I think military service is a fine thing, and well trained military pilots are a necessity. But every taxpayer monetarily supports the military, and I think that was the point of that statement.

Thanks for your concern, but we do pay our fair share for the use of the system.

But You're Dangerous!!

Ugh!!

I'll bite...

You know where 90% of the pilot population in the world come get trained? They come to the US. Do you know why? They dont want to pay USER FEES!!

So we get thousands of people every year coming over here spending 50K of their currency and pupming into our economy. You want that to end?

You also relize that a lot of those hobbiest that are flying small GA planes around are current or retired airline/military pilots. Still want to talk about that exhorbidant accident rate?

Those of you who think pilots in Europe get paid the same as in the states really need to go back and do your homework.... can someone tell me where as an ATR Captain I can get paid over 100K USD working for a US regional?

Thanks for the advice. I'll get right on that.

Oh, really? What'd ya say we call up Mr Peabody and get him to set the wayback machine to the first post in this thread?
So even though you wrote that you think it would be a good thing, you now say that you never said it. Right. Got it. Thanks for clearing that up.

Save the sarcasm for your family.

It will not affect professional pilots at all, other then possibly lower the amount of newbies willing to get into the industry. This would be a good thing for the professional pilots. See : Supply/Demand.

I did not say I was FOR or AGAINST it. I meerly said that for professional pilots, it might not be a bad thing. But this type of thinking probably goes over your head. I have no more will to argue with you.

Yup. I, for one, recommend the clubbing of baby seals to make the pilot pool smaller.

I mean it can't hurt can it?
I recommend clubbing anyone who mentions that they want an airline career! Ya either kill 'em, or knock some sense in to them. Either way, less pilots.

Exactly. For all the FLAPs here who are convinced user fees will kill aviation, consider this:

Yes, it will cost more for you to fire up the old Piper Cub and go for a $100 burger. But, you'll figure out a way to pay for it.

The flight schools will pass the fees on to the students.

The Bizjet boys' bosses will cough up the extra cash.

The sky will not fall.

And the sun will rise and set on schedule.

What a bunch of nattering nannys.
