I think it may be time to unsubscribe to this thread. There are so many things being thrown around out of context, and one sided.
On a lighter note, one that should help to dispell user fees a little more. I listen to KNX1070 (LA area), and heard that the airlines are actually reciveing better scores this year, than last year. And the reasons behind it is because the AIRLINES are flying less, and their services are less stressed to deal with how busy they can get.
Velo: Why don't you start paying to play as well. Mabey if the airlines paid feul taxes, we woulden't need user fees. And take your "military is better attitude" to a military forum. The majority of us don't care. BTW, WE PAID FOR YOUR FLIGHT TRAINING IF YOU GOT IT IN THE MILITARY (tax payers). YOU SHOULD BE THANKFULL, NOT POMPAS! Why do you want to smash GA. Don't you know the reason people want to fly in the first place. I guess your just there to make a paycheck and go home. This is a real question, not flame bait. What in your mind, makes you better than a GA pilot? If you don't want to answer here send me a PM.
Jtrain: Ever heard of renting an airplane? You don't need to own to fly a Cessna. Thats what I do a couple of times a month. And I have a family to support as well. Flying doesn't have to be, and shoulden't be a rich mans hobby. My wife and I, combined, make less than 65k a year. And yes, I can still afford to fly for pleasure. You can pick a a descent, older, but descent 310 for 65-85k a year. Finance it for 20 years, and bada-bing. Average joe can affrod that plane now. Put a partner in the plane, and 1/2 the cost. Or join a club. $1500-3500 start up fee's, and $55 to $105 an hour wet for a 172. Or mabet $125 for a Saratoga, that you can put six in and fly to Tahoe for the weekend, and split the bill, to make it cheaper to go round trip.
I don't remember who it was who was ranting about the super rich owner who fly's his friends around in his Citation. But get real....... How many owner-pilots actually have their very own CJ. And how many of them are actually flying on any given day at that. I bet if you looked today, there is no more than one person flying in a personal citation for pleasure. Buisness, for sure. Pleasure, I highly doubt it.
Lets be real with our arguments, not point out the extreame end of the spectrum. GA is not the red headed stepchild. If it wasn't for GA, the airlines would not exist today.
