My flying situation

Who drop out of school!

You DEFINITELY need to finish school first and get the 4-year degree. During that time you need to be saving money for flight school. Stay out of debt as much as possible. By staying out of a lot of debt, you'll be able to pick jobs you want instead of jobs you have to have!

Seriously though, get the degree first.

Will an Associates degree help at the regional/major level or is a baccalaureate the only thing that's going to help?

When they do start hiring, I'll be willing to bet that those with a 4 year will be at the top of list. Get the degree...it's easy and can be done fairly quickly. Don't get a loan for flight training...that is not a smart decision.

My first piece of advice would be DO NOT get a Sallie Mae loan, or any other loan to finish your flight training. Nobody is hiring right now so there should not be any rush to get your ratings. Take your time, enjoy your training, stay out of debt and pay as you go.

Also, get your degree! I just started working on an accounting degree. The bottom line is that if you don't have a degree, you will never get one of the top tier flying jobs. It might not be fair, but that is just the way it is. Get that degree!

...DOOOOM....
Assuming we don't all go away in 2012 as Boris predicts, finishing your degree will be the best career move you can make.

Oh, please. We're not "all going away", we'll just be slaves for the Reptiloid Overlords. ;)

Agree with "finish your degree". Airplanes aren't going anywhere. Not even in 2012. If you finish your degree and you're still dumb enough to want to operate the winged transportation appliances for a living (like me), you can go to town. Get the degree first. It turns out to be a lot more fun to dream of flying airplanes and getting paid than it is to do it, so enjoy the dreaming.
