Time Frame

mooneyguy

been around forever
Dr Forred. I know you have been asked this many a time, but I have heard the time it takes the faa to issue a waiver changes often. I am into one month with the FAA having my paper work. What is the latest time frame for OKC to issue a medical, or decision.
My medical was done 2-9-09 and defferred to OKC for monocular vision.

Thank you for all you do here!

It usually takes 2 months. If it is for monocular vision, they will authorize and require a MFT - have you done that yet? Once the MFT results are forwarded to OKC, it take about 3-4 weeks to get things processed.

MFT? Im not sure. What is that? I do know I sent in the 8500-7 My DR also included a visual field's. I had Him (My opthomalogist) call AOPA (DR of the day) so He could speak with an AME and he told him what test to do, and what to send in! I hope it included everything. I dont need more delay...this has been a 9 month ordeal already!

Thank you for the reply!

MFT is a medical flight test with an FAA inspector. If they ask for one, you will have to schedule it at the local Flight Standards District Office (FSDO).

Ok, No I have not been informed by the FAA yet to perform one. I have heard nothing from them except they have recieved my paperwork, and are processing!
Thanks again!

It will take 2 months until you hear.

Pardon the thread hijack, but is that typical across the board, or does it depend on the circumstances?

I'm of course trying to relate this to my own situation with the abnormal ECG; my additional cardiac tests were all excellent, and two subsequent ECGs failed to show the same 1st degree AV block that the original one did. So, in my neanderthal mind I think, since there isn't anything wrong with me the FAA should be pretty quick in giving me my medical, right?

How does their review process work?

Thx!

All of the data is submitted and scanned into a document management system. It is then reviewed by a certification specialist who insures all of the required documentation is present. If there are missing documents, a letter is generated requesting same. After all documents are received, the file goes to the physician Que where it is reviewed in the order it was posted. The physician reviews the file and makes a decision. This whole process usually takes 8 weeks.
