PUBNAT 5- Announcement ending 7/31

When I first applied I read somewhere about a signing bonus. Does anyone remember this and if so does anyone have a link or know the specifics?

Yes, and it was for CPC's and for them to move to NYC. Sorry, it doesnt apply for us!

Hello all!:hiya: I am new to this forum and I thought I might share some information I received a week ago (Feb. 23, 2009) from a representative at the Aviation Careers Division. I asked her when and what to expect in the coming weeks as far as PUBNAT 5 is concerned. She told me that in the next 2-3 weeks I could expect an email asking for my Geo. Prefs, whether I would prefer enroute, terminal, or no pref, and then a comments section. She then told me a panel would be meeting in mid-late April; then the referral lists would come out.

I am sure you all know this already, but it makes me feel better and slightly less anxious to "tell" someone that might be going through the same waiting game I am. :p

Thanks!
Taylor

PS: I have applied to PUBNAT 5,6,and 7; took AT-SAT Dec 16 and made a 90.8 :D

I would really like to think that we can expect that but I'm not getting my hopes up anymore. I don't think my liver can take it. What places are people thinking of putting down for Geo Prefs (just curious)? I was thinking VA and NC

It easy for me to say run....so....if you do go through with it (DON'T) then I would suggest a couple things:
1. Try to get a late shift at the airport or one that is opposite of hers. Ever hear "absence makes the heart grow fonder"? Too much time spent together will drive you both nuts!
2. Make sure you have two bathrooms. One for you and one for her. Explanation not needed here.
3. Let her have the bedroom. Let that be her place to decorate and make her own. DO NOT PUT A TV IN THERE!
4. Set your calendar reminders for "that time of the month" and stay at the other end of the house or go stay with a friend. (these moments get worse with marriage)

If i think of any other tips i will let you know.

Man, where were you when I got married 2 months ago? :)

well seeing as i belive i get 4 total choices 2 for pubnat5 and 2 for pubnat 6 i was thinking

Florida-live here

Texas- no real reason other then normal civilization and lots of airfields increasing chance of selection.

California-used to live there and got family so good choice for me

Louisiana-yea i would be willing to move here knowing that after a few years i could get transferred if i wanted and i believe most of the facility's that are needing controllers arent level 12 so better chance of me not washing out. though im sure my parents will try and talk me out of this one.

I was informed this by a person in OKC and honestly...I could see how it is true. You want to stick to the same geo preference places. When the panels meet, you application is put in the pile for the area you requested. Only that area sees your application. Sometimes they like a candidate but are full by the time they get to that application. If you aren't selected cause it is already full but they still want you, if you select that same area on the second pubnat, they get to see you application again and pick you. The more an area sees your application the more likely they are to pick you. Keep your preferences down to 2 or 3 areas. Pick one area you want the most and always submit that in geo preference. You will have a higher chance of being picked up.

I can't guarantee this is absolutely how each region does it. I just know we were informed that for when my husband was trying to get hired. He wanted SLC and they told us to ALWAYS put SLC first, that way the hiring panel will see his application each time.

As for places to live in OKC, check out the air traffic control training area on here. There are a lot of reviews of places to live and stay. You don't have to do the FAA credit card and you do not have to do the FAA housing. Many choose not to in order to save money. That or they get a 2-3 bedrrom and choose to split the cost with roommates, causing it to be cheaper as well.

Can you put open through out the US on your Geo Prefs? If so I think I would I dont really care where I live...

you can put "open to us" in your comments section if I remember right, I don't recall an option for that but once it comes out its pretty obvious what to do. I am going to select Fl, TX. I took tours last week of the Miami center ZMA, Houston tower & tracon i90, I also took a look at houston center ZHU. All in all it was AWESOME!

ill remember that then. ill probably drop texas then and put florida on both prefs since that would be my #1 choice.

I put florida as first choice since i live here now but I put after that Chicago, Denver, and then Boston. I am originally from Boston and don't mind the cold. My wife is a flight attendant and can go anywhere. I just need to know soon for a couple reasons. One reason i have already mentioned (turning 31 in August), second reason is that I just found out today that I am going to be a dad. Honestly, with that news we don't care were we go as long as we go! Hawaii would be cool though! That was after Boston....:rawk:

When it comes time for geoprefs...know that the center close to Boston is not actually in Mass. Messes you up when you have to pick by state.

Where is it? It's funny, when I say Boston I generally am just referring to the New England area as a whole anyway. I have lived in Mass, Maine, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island. Got family in Vermont and Connecticut. It is all the same to me.
