Carrying in your car at the academy.

At the risk of being attacked by some with different views, I am going to ask the question anyway.

Would one be allowed to leave a concealed weapon in their car while at the academy? While I understand that carrying inside the building is out of the question, the wording of the OK law makes it seem like it would be ok the leave it in the car.

I was just hoping for some insight from someone that is already at the academy. Any info would be appreciated.

They will tell you the first day, absolutely not. If for some reason they randomly search your car & find it, you will be fired,

No knives either. Nothing that can be construed as a weapon. They talk of someone who was fired for having a single rifle cartridge in his vehicle.

As for OK law, it doesn't apply at all. It's federal property, like being on a military base.

It's not just the FAA, it's all federal installations:

2-10. Firearms, Weapons, and Explosives. Per Title 18, United States Code, Section 930, “No person entering or while on federal property shall carry or possess firearms or other dangerous or deadly weapons. ..."

I'm used to carrying a pocket knife with my just about everywhere - boy scouts are always prepared. What is the law regarding this for OK outside the facility?

Dont even have ammunition in your vehicle! Not one .22 round. You can have a knife but it cant be any longer than 4inches. no fixed or switch blades.

Small pocket knives, leatherman-type tools are ok too. Why you would need either of these in class... I don't know.

Habit. I've carried a pocket knife regularly ever since I got out of high school where I didn't have to deal with absurd "Zero Tolerance" policies. I usually keep my Swiss Army knife or Kershaw on me most of the time.

Nice to know I won't get booted if I leave my knife in my coat or pocket and show up to the academy with it.

Is it legal to carry concealed in OK without a permit anyway?

Well, I have my permit through FL which has reciprocity with OK.

The only reason I thought it would be ok is from this excerpt from OK law (which I understand can't trump federal law).

B. For purposes of paragraphs 1, 2, 3, 5 and 6 of subsection A of this section, the prohibited place does not
include and specifically excludes the following property:

a. any property set aside for the use of any vehicle, whether attended or unattended, by a city, town, county,
state, or federal governmental authority

Which I would think includes parking lots.

yea, i would think the federal property takes precident tho...if you have a FL license you can carry anywhere else from what i understand...what do you have? im going to learn to shoot and possibly by my first handgun when i go to class, i live just outside of NYC and the hoops you have to jump through to get a handgun here are ridiculous

Yeah, NYC is a hard place to get a permit to carry. I got my permit when I turned 21 and have had it ever since. I don't always carry on my person, but usually keep it in my car. And, that is why I wish we could leave it in our vehicle.

FL doesn't have reciprocity with all states, but it does have it with a lot. Handgunlaw.us is a good website about concealed carry if you want to do some research.

The reason the MMAC parking lots all count as federal ground is cause you have to go through security to enter.

My husband keeps hoping they will open up the federal carry for controllers like they did for pilots. I don't see that happening with Obama as president though.

You also might want to check the carrying law here in OK. If I remember correctly when my husband looked at it he wasn't allowed to leave the gun in the car here cause he didn't have a resident permit. I could be wrong though!

im not even talking about getting a carry, in NY you cant even shoot a handgun at a range without a license, and the process to get a license takes over 6 months and a lot of people get denied....and almost no ranges rent handguns...getting a carry in new york CITY is almost impossible

I've never heard of anyone searching the console or glove compartment of a car at OKC. They do occasionally look at the interior or ask you to open the trunk as you enter. If you carry a weapon in your car, it's at your own risk, and I suggest you keep it out of sight.
