Why do you love your uniform?

As far as the "getting ready to be a professional" argument, I'll (hopefully) have an entire career to get used to wearing whatever uniform my employer says to wear. For now, I dress casually, especially since I'm pushing airplanes, fueling airplanes, demonstrating preflight inspections, sumping the DA-42 (a very *ahem* aromatic experience), and flying GA aircraft in the TX summer heat.

It's really not that bad wearing a uniform, you just get used to it. But I agree, it is nice not to have to dress up all the time to go flying, I did it once over winter break when I rented a plane from the FBO back home...just a good ol' t shirt and jeans!
 
I keep looking for Alan Funt hiding in the bushes or something. Wearing polyester slacks now will make you a better pilot in the future, Maverick? SRSLY? Ahahahahaha. I'll just remind you that in the age of the internet, your words are forever. You will live to regret this!
 
Man, didn't take long for some Riddle bashing in this thread. The silly part is that the people doing it have to wear uniforms at their school. I'm not sure about now but when I went to ERAU I didn't have to wear a uniform to fly. Only stipulation was it had to be pants and a decent shirt with closed shoes (no sandals). The instructors had to wear one but a lot of flight schools make their CFIs dress up in the outfit. Luckily I never had to but even the school where I used to instruct went to a uniform from the polo shirt.

Take a lesson from a guy that once was asking me for a rec to my current company. Seemed to be a nice enough guy and I was willing to help him out until he said "...and I'm pretty laid back too, not like those Riddle ######bags". He probably should have asked a bit more about my background before he unknowingly called me a ######bag. Since there are quite a few of us at my current company I decided recommending someone who was going to stick his foot in his mouth to my colleagues was a bad idea. Poking fun is one thing but also realize there are a lot of us out there that aren't like that so probably a good idea to keep it to yourself in professional conversation.

As for the uniform, the company has one so I wear it. I wear it like I wear anything else, pressed and neat. Our hat puts a Russian sub commander to shame but I wear it because it is required. I do take it off when my head starts to sweat though.

They are some impressive pieces of headgear. However the ability to legally rock the goat covers it.

I'll be through ANC the 5-6 of MAR and in Honkers on the 8th.

Lol, I don't have a uniform in High School; and yes I am in High School.
I was actually referring to my NJROTC uniform when I was in it last year, and when I have to dress up in a suit for debate. :crazy:

The answers you seek are in the profile my friend :)

It isn't too bad but the hat needs a lot of work to break it in. There is a plastic ring that holds the top like a drum, that usually gets removed then there is a metal piece holding the front up. Once the metal is removed or at least broken free and bent, then you go for the 50 mission crush down look.

Now, some guys actually don't look bad in the out of the box headgear but most of us look like idiots. Doesn't help that I have a big 'ole noggin so it looks like I have a flying saucer on my head.

Yeah, the goat puts it all in perspective. Looks like I'll miss ya by a day and a half in both places.
 
Even though I am not required to wear a uniform per se to fly the plane in my avatar, I am required to be dressed with black pants, white shirt and tie with black shoes. There are no epaulettes or wings but I find it appropriate to be dressed professionally when flying a business person around who in turn wears business attire. It's about the business, not about me. If I was required to wear a uniform I would do that too. However, I still laugh at Academy students wearing epaulettes and wings, and their 23 year old instructors running around like Tom Cruise in Topgun. I can highly recommend the military to every aspiring pilot, it will teach each individual about pride and proper dress, maybe removing this task from the flightschools shoulders. You should be well able to dress like a professional before you even start your training to become a pilot...My checkride attire is business casual as well. Dressing like a professional does not make a person professional. Behavior and attitude does.Cheers,
