I heard from a reliable source that there might be a hold on testing for the AT-SAT...

I have a friend that was told that she would receive an email to take the AT-SAT but never did so today she called to see what was up. The person on the phone said "sorry we are not scheduling any AT-SAT testing at this time, we are currently out of funds".

Can anyone confirm this because now im kicking myself about not going to the NYC pepc. Im affraid that the FAA might put a hold on everything for awhile.:banghead:

That sounds like a BS answer to avoid a lengthy explanation. The fiscal year starts in what, October? I find it very hard to believe their budget only made it 5 months when they KNEW they would be hiring mass amounts of people. As always though, its always possible

The problem is if your friend had gotten ahold of another person, chances are she would have gotten a different answer. Even when you get an answer from the source it doesn't mean the answer is the correct one, unfortunately.

Not testing due to money seems odd. I would say more probable would be not testing because they have so many that have already taken the test and they don't currently have as many slots as they have people to fill those slots. This space has been edited because I don't want to cause any waiting to have mass hysteria over possibilities of not getting hired and suddenly have a heart attack...thus causing them to never get the medical needed to become the ATC they dream of being!! (Seriously though...I didn't mean to add to the rumor mill...I remember how horrible it was when we were waiting and a "I heard" thing would start about the hiring process...I was a nut case...still am I think :) )

Also, testing isn't done by the FAA and all I ever heard of when people called about taking the test was getting a general answer of, "We don't do the testing, that is all done by an outside company so we don't have information on that." Maybe the receptionist was tired of all the calls and decided to give a random answer...maybe it is true...etiher way don't take too much heed from this.

I am not saying your friend didn't get that answer, I am saying, don't be surprised if she is contacted tomorrow to take the test.

I found the exact opposite when I called earlier today, to find out that I didn't get selected for sure during the PUBNAT3/4 HI/AK rounds.

The lady told me to keep applying to the PUBNATs. And I said that I skipped 5 and 6 and the next one that I applied to was 7. I asked if I was going to have to wait 7 to 8 months to find out if I have been selected or not again? Her response was that they will be sending out the Geo Pref emails for 5 and 6 shortly as well as the testing emails shortly there after for those who applied for 7. And the wait for 7 should be considerably shorter than 3 and 4.

She also said that they will be putting out another PUBNAT shortly but she couldn't tell me the date because they haven't released that info yet.

So someone's not telling a correct story.

Lets hope it was your person, no offense :)

zz :)

Man. JC is rampant with these rumors.

Nothing personal, P33K, but a "friend" who was told by "someone on the phone" isn't a reliable source. Especially if that "someone on the phone" was Aviation Careers in OKC, who is well known for not having those kinds of answers.

Now, if you sat down to lunch with, say, the Manager of Training Operations, and he told you that "shifts in the budget have been made which reallocated funds from testing in the hiring process to blah blah blah"... okay, that's something more believable.

Until then... I'm not buying it. AT-SATs are not being stopped for groups awaiting them. It's just a long process; we don't need to invent reasons for the wait.

Not testing due to money seems odd. I would say more probable would be not testing because they have so many that have already taken the test and they don't currently have as many slots as they have people to fill those slots. My husband told me the other day that in class the teachers were talking about how they have 8,000 applicants waiting to go to OKC. There are 8,000 people out there tested, approved and just waiting...

8000 applicants waiting to go to OKC? I highly doubt that....Maybe 8000 people waiting to be selected.

Or maybe they were wrong. Given that they didn't even select half of the 1,000 people they expected to in the previous panels, I'm pretty sure either the instructors were confused or the husband misheard the conversation.

They said they had 8000 people waiting to go to OKC. I thought the same thing as you...maybe he just worded it wrong in that there were 8000 applicantions on file (which would be people waiting to go to OKC, but still just applicant)...but that is how he worded it so I tried to keep true to his wording.

I think he added in all the applications that had been approved and taken a qualifying AT-SAT, not selected individuals. We could all be surprised though. Look at the number of people on here for ATC and this group only makes up maybe 15% of the community that has applied! Check out the "OKC 03/31","OKC 04/15", etc. You have 4 maybe 5 people saying they are in that class, yet the class will have 30-35 students in it! There are also classes that have started and not even been mentioned on here. I have been really shocked at the number of people being hired and going through the academy.

Rosstaffari - OR I have bad listening ears and misheard it all. I am finding my mind is getting side tracked too easily lately. I will double check with him when he gets home in a few minutes.

I don't think that 8,000 can even be the number tested that received a passing score.

My example for 8,000 people to be tested and passed since about 4/01/08 (about when PUBNAT1 started testing):

Since then, there have been approximately 225 working days. I seriously doubt that in all these working days there would be AT-SAT testing every week. I'll say 200, but this is still way more days then the real number.

So assuming there have been 200 days of testing:

8,000 / 200 = 40

There would had to have been at least 40 people receiving a passing AT-SAT score nearly EVERY POSSIBLE WORKING DAY since testing began to achieve that number?!?!?! If that’s true, who knows how many people on top of this number didn't pass:confused:

Also consider how many total applications needed to end up with that many eventually passing the AT-SAT. Maybe it's total applicants tested? Sounds a little low to be total applicants period, but still possible I guess.

That sounds high to me, but I guess 40 could be possible if they had testing going on at different places at the same time. I think the day I tested in SEA there were maybe 15-20 people total for the whole day. And I doubt everyone passed.

brilliantly said sweetheart, so when you yourself are the third person to have heard something and you go on here talking about it, you are just as guilty of spreading half truths and rumors. "I heard from my husband who heard from this person who heard from a guy in line at Ted's during lunch who heard from his contractor instructor............."

Count my husband and I as one and that takes away one whole individual in the process. Problem solved!! :) Well technically my husband heard it from the source, being the contracted instructor, who heard it from... ;)

Sorry, I guess I shouldn't have added to the mass hysteria here. I will admit, the number could be (and probably is) off. When I asked my husband for clarification so I could put up the correct info on what he had heard, he recalled the conversation of telling me but did not recall the exact information in the said conversation. Ignore above post because it doesn't have accurate information. We all know there is a significant amount of people waiting to be hired. My sincere apologies to all those that were offended, scared or suddenly finding themselves having symptoms of a heart attack ;)

Clarification on ATSAT testing mentioned above: Although the test for Pubnat1 started in April, the first Pubnat was not named a Pubnat. The openings were individual states/facilities with opening allowing OTS to apply. There were a ton of them. AT-SAT tests started in November of 2007 for those OTS people and some in my husband's class, including my husband, were hired from those applications. My husband took his AT-SAT in early January 2008 (after being approved to take it in July 2007). The 4 guys I talked to hadn't even applied to the Pubnat1, 2, 3, 4, etc. and they got here in December 2008. Some had taken the AT-SAT in November 2007, some in December 2007 or January 2008. Now this is not all his class, just the ones I have talked to personally...no rumors on that! I don't know what Pubnat the others from his class were hired from.

Also - For April Fools I am SOOOO starting a totally huge rumor from within OKC and see how many people freak out before I am forced to state the truth or be banned forever...it will be fun...maybe I will make it state that the old work rules and pay with be in effect as of June 1, 2009 and retroactive until October 2008...maybe I will get some controllers and others here in OKC to go in on it with me...oh the turmoil I will cause...and I think I have successful written the longest run-on sentence in the history of man at the same time!!! :sarcasm: ;)

That's okay. We still like ya.

Well, I hope there'll be catering at your funeral. XD

I was beginning to wonder why I was not PUBNAT1... This explains it!

However, I wasn't picked up until PUBNAT2 as it is..

I love playing the hurry-up-and-wait game

Yea I noticed that after I posted my estimate. Looked in some signatures and saw earlier dates for applying and testing.
