Rush Limbaughs Gulfstream EIB 1

Sweet plane. I cant get over how big the wingspan on this thing is. I love head on pictures of these planes showing just how wide these things are. Span is bigger than the CRj 900 by a short school bus.

Saw the History channel.....or Learning channel, don't remember which...on Marine One and HMX-1. For their age, those VH-3s look darn near brand new throughout, compared to many of the SH-3s I've seen. I know that's beacuse they're VIP birds, but even the engine compartment appeared spotless.

That's because they get cleaned EVERY time they fly. Like any aircraft they can be kept flying indefinately. However, the required maintence curves up over time. Look at it this way, your F-117 probably rolled out of the factory after those VH-3s, and they are all in the scrapyard now.

USMC sucking hind tit since 1775.

Yeah, the 117s were mx pigs, far more than normal, in the last years. The SH-3s are 60s vintage, correct? And aren't the VH-3s the last of the Sea King series in service? Seem to remember some NAS station SAR birds, but don't know if they're still in service.

Nancy Pelosi and a rumor that she requested a C-32 (757) to fly from DC back to San Francisco so she didn't have to refuel. Apparently she has used it once and normally uses a C-20B (G3) each weekend.

At least the Big Three Auto Execs flew multiple execs on each flight. I think Pelosi should fly southwest.

Wow, that's insane! I must have been out of the loop on that one.

Actually, she rides around in a G550. FYI, a G3 would make it non-stop coast to coast no problem.

I agree with the Southwest idea though, its hypocritical that anyone in government flys around in private jets (other than the president of course)

That's a valid point. All elected individuals should, IMHO, fly airlines.

The congressman I worked for used to fly coach. But..that was a different day and time.

Rush is right!

I find it interesting that the Obama Administration is getting on the Big Three and other execs who use business aircraft as they were meant to be used: as a business tool and a time saver, while at the same time the members of his party are flying around in those same private jets. Hypocrites!

As the Speaker of the House, Rep. Nancy Pelosi is next in line to be President after the Vice President, so, there are certain security procedures that need to be taken into consideration and flying commercial would not be feasible.

Now, by flying home every weekend, it does make Nancy Pelosi a hypocrite on her Global Warming fears..;)

But, as much as I dislike the politics of Rep. Pelosi, consideration must be given to her position....

Why? There are 100+ people in line after her.

If its between a GIII and a GV, I wouldnt be surprised if the operating costs of the flight is within a couple of percent of each other when you consider the fuel burn and mx costs of a GIII.

Of course, she can make a request, but she gets told how she flies home.

I think it is an absolute joke that Pelosi wants a 757 to go back and forth to California citing security concerns. I think that the US military should be able to find a secure location to refuel if needed.

:end rant:

That is not a problem. If POTUS can land here in CO today, I am sure the Speaker can with little security concern.

Yeah, ask the advance team about getting the president in there. It ain't just "showing up". There are HUNDREDS of man-hours involved with moving the man.

They can add a couple extra hours and i will be happy as long as i don't have to lose sleep that Pelosi is #3

I was at Pt. Mugu when Reagan used to fly in to go to the ranch. Both the 707 and the helos got plenty of TLC. Those babies were washed and waxed after every flight. I'm sure the H-3s could fly another 20 years if the parts are available.

True. We'd get flooded by the advance teams every time RR came to town. As I recall the complement of airplanes alone was 1 707, 2 or 3 H-3s and a couple of H-46s. Along with a 141 or two to bring in the Suburbans and other support items for the Secret Service. It was quite a show.

Here's a couple fun facts. NAS Pt. Mugu never had an ILS until the Reagan years. One was installed for AF1. The ID? IRRG. Commonly known as the Ronald Reagan Glideslope.

And a VORTAC was installed on the ranch with a big landing pad for the helicopters. The Marines had a couple approaches designed for the facility.
