PUBNAT 5- Announcement ending 7/31

Very reasonable and logical method. Which is, of course, the primary reason the FAA cannot use that method. I'm starting to get a little freaked out about this geo pref nonsense now! At first it was kind of just a little "eh, whatever" step and now apparently it actually plays a big role.

Yeah, it's a damn guessing game. It's almost like you shouldn't put where you want but instead put where you think there will be openings. So instead of putting the highest qualified people around the country, we're all trying to figure out what states might possibly need people. It's like a stress test gone haywire.

they're probably secretly testing us to see if we're smart enough to figure out how/where to put to get hired as well as seeing if we can handle all of these ridiculous little stressors they give us ;) You're right. Stress test haywire, but add a dash of IQ test in there and we're heading in the right direction... Psh, maybe I'll just put down Guam, haha.

But therein lies the problem. Now, we may end up passing a job up in an area we want for potential jobs elsewhere. Like if I want one in NV, but have heard that MI needs people and put that, I get screwed out of NV. Oh well. ND and SD here I come!!!

im with bigey on this one. i applied for 3 and 4 and saw people with lower scores than me get picked. i picked ny and pa and also noted in the comments that i was willing to go anywhere...

Just got another text from someone who has similar work experience, SAME geo-prefs, and same qualifications (school wise) and he got a 95.4, and he was picked up for an airport in SoCal....major :banghead:

It almost seems like if you score above a certain score they should just offer you a place elsewhere if you don't get your first choice...I mean, why would you let someone with say a 97 sit around twiddling their thumbs and take someone who got an 84 instead? Oh well. They don't make much sense to me anyway...

We need to stop thinking rationally, and think like cavemen apparently....

They should offer you a spot for scoring a certain score. I can't think of any conceivable reason that makes sense for why someone with a 97 should be flapping in the breeze because he didn't pick the right states. I mean, offer somewhere, and if the higher scores don;t want it, then go to the lower people. Makes sense to me

Again, stop thinking rationally, this is the FAA, it's not like it's an elite, organized government run administration or anything....:laff:

I guess man. I'm just gonna put the two I actually want and hope for the best. What's funny is, I've read on several instances here where people got offered positions in states they didn't list on their geo prefs. Go figure. Maybe I'll get picked up somewhere I didn't even consider. I'm young, I can move around.

I've heard the same. People getting assigned Memphis even though they never requested it!

I even put in my comments "willing to relocate throughout the nation regardless of my geographical preferences." I'm young, can moved around, no problem.

But i guess, it's better to throw someones application out the window simply because they werent able to accommodate their "first" (seems like to this women, it's the ONLY choice) geographical preference. Simply put, it's GARBAGE.

I mean, I guess with my score I'll be hoping I can get consideration for places I didn't put down (assuming there's nothing in either state I select). Cause it would seem logical (I know, a problem with this whol process) to put the highest scores in consideration for places that need help regardless of whether or not they were on our geo prefs. But hey, maybe they just throw the applications in the air, hold their hand out, and see which one lands in their hand.

I'm not 100% sure, but I seem to recall someone saying that there is a through the U.S. option on the geopref sheet, just as there is on the pubnat app.

Anyone from previous pubnats confirm?

This is in no way me trying to be derogatory towards you, but some of your comments seem to imply you think you are entitled to this job...

I have no idea what your background is, education, etc but when the selection panel meets, they evaluate the ENTIRE application to determine your competitiveness. It is not ALL based on AT-SAT scores. The military does the same thing for Officer Training School. You take the AFOQT, but it is only part of the application. Just because someone got a 100 doesn't mean they are entitled to the job or makes you a better candidate than someone with a 90 with one hell of a background. It means you were better at playing a video game on a computer.

The point is, relax and try to find out how you can make your application better; instead of saying the FAA is to blame and your going to complain about the process, be proactive. The bickering about..."well this guy had a lower score and he got picked over me" crap is getting old. Sometimes we all need to just let the ball roll and see where it ends up. I agree that the Geo-Pref deal sucks, but there isn't much we can do about it.

Anyone else have their test score changed?

Rechecked my score today, and it changed as well. Only by one tenth, and it went up, so no complaints here. What worries me now is the lack of people reporting assingnments from Pubnat 3/4 in the Seattle area, as that is where I was hoping to stick. I bought a house early 2007, so there is no real way I can relocate without taking a huge loss. Guess I just have to hope for the best!

Point taken. Comment was made in the heat of the moment, and not fully thought through. In no way do i feel entitled to the job, i was simply stating that one of the persons i do know going through the process, we have nearly identical applications.

However, i did call OKC today again, and got some better insight in how to better prepare for the next round of hiring and what i should do.:)

Also, i'm sure you can understand why the frustration. I was explained by other people at OKC about how the geo-prefs work. Then only come later to find out thats not how it occurs. So i based my decision making on what was informed to me, only to find out it doesnt work. I'm more frustrated with the degree of varying answers i'm being told and the false statements, than me not getting selected this round.

Any chance you'd wanna share some of those insights???

:yeahthat:

Well, according to OKC, and an ATM, it's best to not list much in the comments field (specific locations) as they'll try to accommodate you there first, but it may lower your chances of being considered elsewhere.

They said it was better to just list the entire states where you prefer, but in the comment field leave it blank or if you're willing to locate nationwide say "willing to relocate nationwide."

Sounds good to me! Heres to the coming months!:rawk:

Good stuff. I figured that would be the thing to put in the comments section as I am just trying to get a job anywhere really. While yeah, I have ideal states, I'm not willing to turn down much of anything.
