Going through withdrawal in KTUL!!

So I moved to Oklahoma to fly for a friend and moved my family here. :D Now the school I worked for is out of business!:confused: "We have ceased flight training operations!" :( Now I work at KTUL as a refueler while I look for another teaching gig...anywhere!! :)

So i wondered if anyone could help me get my fix! I want to sit right seat in anything with two engines and airworthy wings. I know i may not get paid, I'm not counting on it, and I definitley do not want to put someone else out of work, but I need to get my multi fix. I just don't have the money to rent a twin right now and the local free lance operation wants 750 TT before they will let you near the duchess. I have applied to the schools at KRVS, but they are not hiring right now. :banghead:

If anyone has any connections I could beg, borrow, or steal I would greatly appreciate it! Or know of schools hiring in the midwest or anywhere else, please let me know!!

I dont know if moving again is an option... but you said 'in the midwest.' I've seen job posts for a CFI gig in Lubbock, TX - Hub City Aviation I believe it is. Good luck.

Why so desperate for multi time? It's not like it's really going to get you anywhere any time soon in this economy.

Please don't offer to fly for free. It makes it hard for those who want to get paid when others fly for free. Good luck finding something though.

Agreed. I am really struggling to pay bills right now, and it looks like i'm going to have to find a part time job outside of aviation so I don't have to dip into my savings account just to get by. Please don't take away a paid position from any of the hundreds, if not thousands of guys and gals who are struggling to get by just to fill your "fix".
 
I'm probably going to get burned for this..but if the plane is certified for single pilot operations....the company is most likely not going to pay for somebody to ride along with them. So why not just get right seat time for free?

I never thought about it like that. In fact, you should be paying them for the privilege of riding in their right seat! :sarcasm:

Why do you say that the company is most likely not going to pay? Many of us on this website started our careers in the right seat of King Air's and Cheyenne's, flying dead legs, and even ended up making a decent wage off of it after going to formal training and becoming a co-captain. All of the time while being paid.

It doesn't matter if the airplane is single pilot or not. For whatever reason, if they require another pilot to be in the cockpit, whether he is logging time or not, he or she should be paid for it.
 
okay, i'll clarify on my post more. What if a second pilot is not needed at all? Not for insurance reasons or anything? What if they just ask if you want to ride along? I've done this many times. A second pilot is not required. I've got some flight time...and I'm pretty sure if I would have asked to get paid, they would tell me where to go in a hurry.

I can see where you're coming from if there is a second pilot required. I would not do this if I was not getting paid...plus I don't even have my commercial yet, so I can't get paid.
 
I'm fine with the above situation, but just understand, when someone says "I'll do it for free, I don't expect to be paid", especially if its a scenario where a second pilot is required for whatever reason, its going to raise a lot of flags and piss off a lot of people...There is just too many of us out there who need paying work for many reasons beyond "just for the hell of it".

There is no problem here at all. None.
If your buddy is taking a trip and invites you to ride along and experience what a jet or turbo prop is like, there really isn't anything that should hold you back from that and I hope you get to see something like that.

For somebody to say that you need to be paid for that is ridiculous.
You are not required, you are not taking a pilot job away from somebody and you are not paying for it so you have no problems.

Certified single pilot means nothing in this debate if we are talking about a second pilot being REQUIRED by the owner/operator/pilot for whatever reason. If the airplane wont be flying if there are not two pilots on board, the man or woman in the right seat should be getting paid.

I have been flying a BE-200 for the past year and a half. Single pilot airplane, however, the company has very specific rules about aircraft usage. One of those rules is that the aircraft is crewed by two pilots at all time. If there are not two pilots sitting up front, employee's of the company are not to step foot on the airplane, and the airplane will not go flying.


You would be ridiculous to do this without pay.

Now if the OP has a friend that wants to take him along for fun as a passenger in the right seat, thats perfectly fine. He isn't required for whatever reason.
 
Guys, we are kind of getting off topic here. Jim I sent you a couple of instructing gigs, but neither is in the midwest. They should be in your e-mail now. Does anybody else have any job leads? He is mostly looking for instructing gigs.
 
I fly around with an empty right seat 99% of the time because my company realizes that any toolbag that is "just happy to be there" is going to be more trouble babysitting than they're worth raising the gear. Get a job, hippie.
 
There's nothing wrong with going for a plane ride. If it's something you would mention in an interview or put in a logbook, however, you should be paid for it. I wouldn't hire any of you fly-for-free guys- to fly for free. I would pay you if I were running a flight department. Please, if this could end up being rent or mortgage money for someone, step out of the way if you don't need the money, and allow someone who's paying bills to fly. Go for a planeride, or get paid.

I wasn't talking about the OP. I was talking about the guy with an A-10 for a picture. I read it, and I think I read it correctly that a second pilot is not required and this offer stands as just offering a cool ride to somebody that has never seen it before. I'm cool with that, still.

I was going to stay out of it....
I am sure the OP is as good person but this thread took a nose dive at the get go. Most of us won't post a job in our area so the guy can come into our work and do it for free. Honestly, the last thing we talked about at our CFI meeting was a raise, not "I know a guy...", that would really work against us.
