CTI (Enroute): What to Expect?

That's what I thought as well... lots of over flights, and you don't really see the crash like a tower controller would. Then again I could be wrong.

Yeah I always thought enroute would be way less stress then working at a busy TRACON?

SCT, C90, N90, or A80 would probably be worse(not by much), otherwise a busy ARTCC is just as bad. For example: If you think most ZID traffic is overflight being untouched, you would be sorely mistaken. Very little of our traffic is pure overflight. Most of our traffic climbs or descends through our airspace and cross eachother at the same altitude. Now add weather, turbulence, and pushes from nearly every major airport in the Midwest/Eastern United States and you'll see it can be just as stressful as any terminal facility.

There is a reason En Route has the longest training program, and it is not because it is easy........

Let me guess, you've never worked at a center before?

heck no, i was strictly a tower controller in the Navy with some arrival and GCA's but I never did any center. Looking at the Enroute guys here at the academy, im glad im not going to a center too. So many people i have talked to here that are Center washouts and absolutely hated every second of their time in the centers. Many washed out on purpose or just straight up resigned so they could start over terminal, screw center man.

May god have mercy on you bastards going to Centers

yeah, turn down any center and go terminal. Youll live 10 years longer and be less likely to strike your wife

Wow that has to be one of the dumbest comments I have read on this board. People like you don't belong in the FAA and I certainly wouldn't want to work with you. It doesn't matter whether your a terminal or center controller. Stereo-typing some thing is stupid and thinking you're better than another person because you work a different part of the FAA is really immature.

Don't listen to "navyac" if you want to be a center controller go for it. Obviously stereotypes can't be true because this guy makes REAL terminal people look bad.

And this makes you the expect? How many people have you interviewed or have you just based your opinion on your own stupidity? I happen to know people in both Terminal and En-Route who love what they do. I know people in both who hate it and want to switch. Whats you're point? You should keep your idiotic biased opinion to yourself.

I'm glad I'm taking career advise from someone who's never worked/done what I'm about to do...
Last time I checked this thread title said "CTI (Enroute): What to Expect." Meaning the only people that should have any weight behind their words are the people that were CTI and are either in enroute training at OKC or their facility...

Couldn't have said it better myself... But if you ask me, he's also making the Navy look bad.

Hey guys, so I'm three days into the enroute training, and while there is ALOT of information thrown at you, I am enjoying it so far. Our instructors are extremely knowledgeable (our three leads have over 100 years experience), our class is pretty tight, and I'm learning alot! Just a heads up for those coming in.. study your map!!!! We have our map pre-test on tuesday and our actual test next friday. Everyone have a merry christmas!!

Thanks so much for the heads up! I'll be sure to know the map as much as I can before I start. By any chance did you have to take a basics test or any other kind of test when you first got there?

We're not that type of website.

We took a 100 question test, that was quite hard, but our instructor said he never even sees your grade and it doesn't count against you. He told us we should get our score back in a couple of days, and that the highest score he had ever seen was an 86. So dont worry about it, he told us there's no way to study for it, just a gauge of your previous knowledge.

So you're 100 percent sure it doesn't count against you? I just want to make sure I read that right...

hahahahahahaha, you guys must both be center pukes. Calm down, im actually basing my opinion on my 9 year experience as a military controller. What are u basing ur opinion on, the forums on Jetcareers.com??? And what does that mean, "And what makes you the expect?" Learn how to spell and then edit your post cause you sound like an schmo.

Hmmm...allowing some one to bash people is allowed though?

 Yeah I made a typo whoops, but center pukes? No I am not, you definitely don't sound like some one with 9 years of experience either. You sound like a 9 year old, obviously your opinion is wrong and to make a comment proposing some one who does a center job is likely to beat their wife is completely ignorant. I'm basing my comments on actual facts, FAA EXPERIENCE, and I am friends with center controllers who are some of the greatest people I have ever met and same with terminal controllers. But there has to be some one immature to come along and think that their terminal or center is a better path or they know every thing. You happen to get that title, hopefully you don't take that attitude to the field or even around the academy, i'm sure you'll earn a reputation by it. I stick by my statement and pray I never have to work with you.

To the original poster stick to what you like, you can see by this thread, the FAA isn't perfect no matter what path you take. Go to the academy with your mind open and ready to learn and you'll do fine. I'm done with the thread pm me if you have any academy questions and I can help you out.

Off topic, perhaps, but just wondering-- are you married?

Nice post craptastic, everyone is different, and they will either enjoy their job or hate it. I took the first job offered to me, and I will see how it goes, but as of right now, I am enjoying myself and have learned more in a week than I did in a year of CTI school. Thanks for the offer for help, man, and I might take you up on that offer soon.

dude so butt hurt you sound like a woman. Its no different than someone bashing someone elses favorite NFL team or something. its playful ribbing and by you getting so upset, you make urself sound like a premenstrual woman. Shut up, go to school and form your own opinion. Until then, lighten up and remove object from rectum

I have never heard such non-sense in my life. Well, maybe in middle school.

Some of these threads get a tad out of hand... :whatever:
