California seems to always need people.
Does anyone else run into completely unsupportive people in their town?
im a server at the local outback and, when i tell customers about the awsome career opportunity that weve been given, i always get a response like "oh wow. good luck with that. i hear the faa treats their workers like crap." or the ever so famous "ya i was a controller once. it was the worst mistake i ever made!"
after telling a guy about how regan fired the strikers 20 years ago, he told me he was one of those strikers and got "bent out of shape" about how im totally taking advantage of his loss.
it doesnt really bother me because those people are ex-controllers for a reason. but its just annoying that nobody thinks its a good idea around here![]()
The only thing I ever get is "Air traffic controller??? Well you'll be a drunk pretty soon ehh!!"Does anyone else run into completely unsupportive people in their town?

Are you typing on a "not-US" keyboard? All your apostrophe's are showing up as äSee, now thank Doug Taylor for hosting a section just for ATCäers. We here in this section want to be air traffic controllers, so we wonät give you crap
Besides, where in the world will you be able to say you get to play with aircraft all day? What other job is there that one couldnät possibly love any more?
Not saying this job is gonna be all sunshine and flowers but it certainly is something we really, really want. Iäd say screw the bad talkers and come in here and vent about it

Hey everybody, I have a question that hopefully hasn't been covered.
I understand that once you are out of OKC and in a terminal or center, your base pay is around 33,000.
However, how exactly do the pay raises work. I know they come as you complete each quarter of your training, but are they performance based after you are completely certified, or are they based on time put in?
I'm trying to get a ballpark idea of how quick I can pull in some decent money, as I wouldnt want to work for 33,000 too long. I'm currently making around 50K, and I'm wondering how long I would have to work to at least get back to where I am leaving.
I understand that terminal vs. Center makes a difference, as does the level of traffic, but for the sake of argument, lets say I'm in a pretty busy tower. (hopefully BWI) .
The pay raises are based solely on checking out on positions. Which positions differ from facility to facility.
There is absolutely no ballpark figure for what to expect?
How about how much of a pay increase you receive for each training segment? Is that standardized?
And what do you mean by "checking out on positions"? As in it depends on how many people are leaving that facility, and what money is available?
