Myth Busters

It's an electronic device, but it's only a receiver, so it should be fine as far as interference, but radios (AM-FM) are not allowed to operate onboard commercial aircraft from what I remember from the seatback literature.

As far as cell phones, yeah, I've only gotten the slight audio interference.


So, how come the FA's tell me I have to shut off my handheld gps or ipod? Both of these are receive only....
 
Guys... I hate to break it to you but handheld GPS's can cause interference. I've seen it, used to watch it happen. The old texas instruments (used to by in the magellan's) used to be so bad it would shut off multiple signals around them. scarey stuff.

Good news is those TI's were redesigned but there is a potential.
