Which freq to hold short on?

AIM says here to switch without being told to switch. As a matter of fact, it suggests to monitor prior to being ready in case they are looking for you on tower before reaching.

Personally, without being told otherwise I make the switch as I approach the hold line of my assigned takeoff runway. If they expect otherwise, they ought to be stating as such.

PHX is a good example because I seem to have been flying in there alot lately: Coming down H out of the GA area for a 25L takeoff, there’s been a few times when I’ve been rolling down H and the ground controller comes up with “[my callsign] Monitor Tower 120.9” If they don’t, I make the switch at the hold line. Never had a problem with that.
