Yet another comm certificate question

After I get the IR (hopefully by January), I'd like to take a different approach in getting the comm--I'd like to go the fast route. First of all, I have about 35 hours complex and hi-perf time right now, so I have that base covered. Secondly, I have most of the other hourly requirements done, and I have nearly 300 hours TT. Assuming I get the written out of the way before I start the training, is there a way to get the commercial certificate FAST but with thoroughness. I know the two terms are normally mutually exclusive, but I wonder if my background might mitigate that problem?

After the commercial, I plan to go back to my normal, slow method of learning, and get my CFI and CFII.

Thanks, as always, for your comments.

I don't think so.. long as you are in a part 61 program and not a 141 school you should be ok. I don't think an employer would look down on that. You have your time whats the difference.

I would work ~10-15 hours on commercial manuvers and make sure I meet the x-c requirments and read part 61 on it's full requirements to be a commercial pilot. Pick up a oral exam guide and read the PTS standards and you should be done pretty quick.. probably before me

**- also I think you're required to take some form of ground school and have a endorsment showing that.

If you are looking for fast, do the 3 day commercial deal at ATP.Click on the ATP link at the top to find more info and to also help out Doug.

No, they aren't...not at all. Only people that couldn't get a rating quickly think that.

Wasn't there some problem in the past with ATP, or was that American Flyers?

American Flyers.

Maybe you can squeeze in a few commercial maneuvers during your instrument training each flight. Then after your instrument you'll be able to take the comm ride too.

By the time I decided to do my commercial I had all the time requirements met so I got the written out the way and got my commercial in 7 hrs over a 4 day period. It is totally doable to knock your commercial over a few days. If you have the prerequisites met I would definitely find a short course. If you are interested PM me and I give you the info where I did my commercial. I paid 1,600 and it included lodgin and a courtesy car. The intruction is given by a career CFI who is a very good instructor.

Thanks for the input, guys! I'll get back on this in January/February when I have a letter "I" at the end of my signature!

Not to hijack the thread, but Internet/Media rumors don't mean there is a real problem. I researched last years allegations against American Flyers with friends that work for the FAA and had my local FSDO make inquires withthe FSDO in Texas regarding AF's programs.

The upshot is, I could find nothing other than a newspaper article from a year ago alleging folks being passed in 141 courses that did not meet standards. FAA examiners have the authority to pull operating certificates for any manner of viloation and yet AF is still operating and doing 141 certifications. Draw yotur own conclusions, but I think we all know the FAA is far from infallable and the allegations could well have been an FAA employee with an axe to grind.

Anyway, as pilots we have to consider adverse condtions and make our own decsions. I made mine, and I'm currently in the AF 30 day CFI Academy in Dallas along with 12 other CFI wanna'be's.

If anyone wants to discuss AF's CFI program I'll be happy to give my early (1st week) impressons (many pro with a few signficant con) and will detail my experience in a post to the site when I finish up the program.

Lastly, I think we do a major dis-service by perpetuating allegations about a major flight school like Flyers without a more critial look into the situation.

Hey, Tiger...I'd really like to know how your training in the 30-day CFI program goes. I'm always eager to hear stories from folks that attend accelerated programs!

About AF and the "problem" - even if they did nothing wrong, they still had problem. If I've done nothing and my neighbor accuses me of murdeer, I've got a problem!!

I'll definitely post how it goes and I understand what you mean about the problem.

As things stand, it looks like I will likely have a CFI job when I get back home, so hopefully any potential damage to AF's reputation won't affect me.

However, If I do have to go door to door I hope that potential employers are open minded enough to know that a hatchet job in the local paper could smear them just as easily as it has AF and once "the toothpaste is out of the tube" it's darn hard to get it back in.

Later,

LOL! On another webboard, my signature also has "PP-ASEL" appended to it. I realized my mistake after the post, but I just let it go. . . .
