I'm curious as to whether or not this is required for ALL CFI's or just those employees of a flight school?

The reg reads like its for flight schools and their employees.

Anyone?

Employed in the eyes of the faa. Mandatory in the eyes of the TSA

As long as you don't do any teaching. It is mandatory by the TSA if you do flight instructing.

Yeh, just found that, so employed or not, if you're teaching it's required.

I've done it, just having an issue with the TSA not doing their yearly "records check" for 2012 and giving me grief about it.

Stupid waste of time.

I wonder who I'd need to talk to about the branch not completing their yearly inspections..

Maybe a hornets nest best not sticked though. LOL

Better off left alone, most likely. You might not like the answers.

Had an intro flight with a husband and wife. She's a citizen of the UK, has lived here for years and will be a citizen in about 6 months, he's a native US citizen.

The whole, "you need to send a $130 check to the TSA, get fingerprinted, and have a terrorist threat assessment completed before you get to fly the Cessna any more" went over real well.

Thankfully she's just going to wait until she's a citizen so we can skip their stupid little game.

Thanks for keeping us safe. Morons.

I used to feel her pain (prior to naturalizing myself).

The real sore point over that was that as a green card holder, I had already been fingerprinted, photographed and background checked to death by the same government department several times over the course of 6 years.

How does one go about getting this yearly TSA "endorsement" or whatever it is? I am currently working on my CFI, have all of the writtens done and have a lot of the oral studied for. I haven't really read into this TSA requirement any. It is something that I am going to have to get done and would like to get some more information on it. Thanks!
