Yahoo Hotjobs lists ATC

Yeah, I saw that. At least they were a little closer on the medium salary than most sources are. I still question the list. I'm pretty sure you need some sort of degree for some of those jobs, and freelance photography pays terrible for all but the best at it. Course, most of those are kids straight out of college who just took a photography class and want to start doing weddings and bar mitzvahs.

What the article is saying is true, but they leave so much out that it's a joke! Yea, you can make good money, but what they don't tell you is all of the studying that you have to do along the way, the background check, the MMPI, and all of the hoops and stuff one has to go through to get D sides, let alone get CPC. It is misleading, and gives the public a false sense of the job, they make it seem like "You can make X amount of dollars if you become a controller" and that's all folks!. Ppl tell me is that, "you are making good money", and I then tell them all the stuff that I have had to go through, and then they say I wouldn't want to do that, or nope, I couldn't do it no matter how much they paid me. So whoever does these things need to focus on the big picture instead of the $$$ aspect.

I'm still feeling the sting from my rejection. I did well on the test, I got accepted to SoCal TRACON and then BOOM!! "Sorry Dude. You're too old." I turned 31 between the time I was accepted to Socal TRACON and the time my class date started and then that was it. It still stings. I tell people that story and they can't believe it. I'm 32 now but I'm one of those people that has always looked really young. Anyway, it's just brutal to be young but considered too old.

I can't believe it, either... how were you "accepted" to work at the TRACON and then age out? If you were accepted, you'd have a TOL, at which point your age is frozen. You could have waited 10 years and gotten in at 40, as long as you had a Tentative Offer Letter when you were still 30. I'll be staying at Kim's Place with a guy that's 32.

Something doesn't sound right.

Don't feel too bad...There are numerous ppl from my OKC class who I talk to now and some are quitting, some washed out, and others hate the job, so the grass isn't always greener on the other side.
