Written Exams

OK. I am in written exam mode right now, with the intention to go from CFI thru MEI. I just took the FOI yesterday.

I know I still need to take the FIA & the FII exams. Wanted to know thoughts about taking any additional writtens while everything is fresh. Someone recommended that I take an additional written, but cant quite remember which one it was. I am thinking it might have been AGI. Does the AGI give you something that is not part of the CFI & II credentials?

I don't think you have to be a pilot to get AGI certified. Once you get your CFI,CFII, and MEI you will be qualified to teach ground school. Can my fellow JCers add to this?

I think this was the answer I was really after. Seem like the IGI and/or AGI is in leiu of getting CFI and CFII, right? Although I realize that it would be wise to get the AGI to be qualified for the Gold Seal.

Take the advanced ground instructor exam the same day you take the CFI Airplane written.

Take the instrument ground instructor exam the same day you take the CFII written.

Go to the FSDO and give them the FOI and the two ground instructor tests. Leave 10 minutes later with a ground instructor certificate. Use your ground instructor certificate in place of the FOI written on your initial CFI checkride.

would You mind explaining that a little more?Use the AGI in place of the FOI on the checkride?

So if you've got all your instructors ratings why would you need an AGI or IGI, except for the Gold Seal qual. Wouldn't you get those if say one was a non-piolt who could only teach and get paid for ground school. Zero 1 Niner brought up a very question, I remember long ago at the school I used to teach at this subject came up and out of seven instructors each seemed to have their own take as to how the AGI or AGI would benefit someone who already has all his CFI's. I'm still not sure.

Only in the aquisition of the Gold Seal, technically.

If you actually do a formal ground school course and sign off for writtens on your CFI, you have to keep records for 3 years, but not so with the AGI. And, if your CFI expires, you can still use the AGI.

Ok, If you have an AGI you do not have to take the FOI?

I was planning on taking the FOI, FIA, and FII.
I am going to go in June and get my CFI, CFII, and MEI
I wanted to take all the written test first.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but there is no written for MEI?

Correct. If you have the AGI, you've already taken the FOI knowledge test once and don't need to again.

Yes, the FOI and FIA. But if you get your single-engine CFI first, then you will have already taken those.
