Southwest Airlines ends open seating, introduces redeye flights

The Dallas-based airline is putting an end to its open seating policy, will begin offering premium seating and is introducing redeye flight options.

Honestly my least favorite part of flying WN was the open seating. As a commuter, unless the plane was half empty I wasn’t exactly thrilled to be flying them. Jumpseating was a different story. Some of the best crews I’ve caught a ride with were WN crews.

I doubt the overnight flying will have any effect on their current hiring forecast. The class that just started in April will probably start comping out around the time they start doing overnight flights. They’re still waiting on more planes to come in from a certain manufacturer. Last thing I heard was it was going to be at least winter of 25 before the next clas.
