"Wings Air" Suspended Service

They park next to us at the American gates in ATL, and according to a ramper there, a pilot told him they didn't make payroll last month.

Isn't there a caravan operator doing the same thing out of ATL?

The reason that Wings Air suspended operations was due to a primary investor pulling out of the company. The company was hemmoraging too much money to sustain operations.

As of the moment, the operations are just suspended. Wings Air will continue to serve Lawrenceville (LZU) to the FBO in order to keep DOT approval.

The company is going through restructring and has investors talking with management.

It's been a tough month with Wings Air, I should know, I work there...

(As for the "bet"...that's just classy...real classy y'all) - HEAVY SARCASM

I recently saw one of them taxi the wrong way on Taxiway M then cutoff a 757. I'll admit, it was pretty entertaining hearing ATL ground stress out.

Actually, serves me right. Didn't read the article. Since they're still in business, the person hasn't won the bet. Now, as far as how much longer this individual has before they lose any opportunity of winning. . .well. . .it's closing fast.

I happen to work upstairs at the flight school in the same building as Wings Air. We heard yesterday that they were stopping all 121 ops. I was under the impression that they were going to continue 135 ops though, I could be wrong. I also heard that they weren't able to get the Feds to subsidize them for the communities that they were serving.

I really feel for the employees of this company. They hired a bunch of people for all parts of the operation to get this going. Most where gone by 3pm yesterday. I hope everything works out for them.

What is the story with this group? Why do people hate them? Is this the weird offshot of the Hawaii place that did PFJ/PFT?
I have no idea. I have a couple friends that went there after they got furloughed and although it wasn't their dream job they thought it wasn't it bad.

I honestly don't know what it is about Wings Air that made some on here "hate" us or want us to fail. Maybe it's the thought of someone flying a twin piston into ATL and the pilot makes more than they do flying a "shiny new CRJ900" in the right seat? It's beyond me...maybe it's the "Non-paid" FO's? (They were not required due to ops specs, that's the reason why they didn't get paid...I don't make the rules on that, I wish they had gotten paid...we had some good ones)

Wings Air started as a charter company (135 on demand) and sought the EAS contracts to AHN and MCN. While working on the 135 Scheduled Ops, the contract was awarded to Pacific Wing's "Georgia Skies". Wings Air pressed on with the operation knowing that we had access to the T-Gates in ATL (Georgia Skies uses the FBO).

After a few months of operation, we had to suspend operations due to one of our primary investors loosing money in his own business.

We have a good group of guys at Wings, a few retired Delta guys (both 777 check airmen), a few Air Tran guys were here and I'm on leave from Horizon.

Surferlucas,

Are you still currently employed by Wings Air? We saw a bunch of the mechanics picking up their tool boxes and right now they have 8 airplanes in the hanger. Are they still doing charter flights? I'm just curious.

I don't know why anyone would want them to fail. I personally like the business strategy at Wings and would like to see them succeed. Have most of the flights been operating at full capacity?

I always thought it was cool to see the 402's of Cape Air at Logan. Hope things work out well for you. There was another bank failure in GA last night - that makes two in the Atlanta area in less than 6 mos. Maybe your guy was a shareholder there or something and got wiped out. Either way, all the best!

I personally don't know anyone who thought there was anything wrong or something to hate about the Wings Air operation.

Personally I wish the operation the best of luck. It's a niche market that is obviously under-represented in the Atlanta metro area. The time saved is very valuable to the customers. It's a shame operations have had to be reduced.

With that being said, when a peer presents a friendly wager stating that a certain company won't be operating in ATL beyond February I easily took the opportunity to win a little bet perhaps, and if not, to buy a bunch of drinks. But anyway . . .

Good luck.
