They're in good financial health, with comparable margins to Delta, and were never philosophically opposed to Spirit's acquisition by JBU and Frontier.

It's also wise to kill the baby now while it's weak before it grows into a credible competitor.

At this point, after two failed mergers, the Spirit board has reduced leverage to extract concessions from multiple bidders.

Sun Country catapults itself ahead of the pack, in front of Allegiant and Frontier, and becomes an unstoppable Goliath of the LCC/ULCCs.

Merger friendly administration coming in.

No. Adding another fleet type will incur costs. SYALPA does not want any bases outside of MSP,although there is new MEC leadership so maybe that will change

There's a lot of variables.

Indigo(who already owns Frontier) has already owned Spirit, so they might be able to get them back at a great deal. Or Frontier gets them at a better deal than already asked. They also don't have to worry about another fleet type.

But I don't really see Sun Country going for it. They have a good thing going, plus they have more 737s coming with Atlas getting rid of theirs.

After Alaska bought Hawaiian and Virgin America, I'll never again say no chance. But, very slim. I can see Southwest maybe doing it if they want to grab cargo ops, more sims, more traffic rights and a quick 737 boost as Southwest is so affected by Boeings crap.

I think Frontier and Spirit will go for it with the change in office. I'm sure the likelihood of that happened is high.

Our local rumor mill says B6/AS is going to happen.

Maybe it does, maybe it doesn't. I'm so junior it wouldn't matter either way.

It might happen one day but I don't expect it to happen in the next few years, let alone pass DOJ muster. Let alone have AS interested in merging a third carrier into the mix in such a short time.
