Why you don\'t put all your eggs in 1 basket

After being in my unit for 4 and a half years I was just told by the guy in charge of pilot hiring that they will not interview me for a UPT slot. I didn't bother asking why, it couldn't possibly be good. I don't have anything in my Unfavorable Informaiton File, haven't been in long enough for an EPR. Here's my stats.
23 years old
4+ years in unit
Activated for last year and a half
B.S. Aviation
3.5 GPA
Comm SE/ME
CFI, CFII, MEI
Typed in CE-500, CE-525
570TT
AFOQT scores: Pilot 95, Nav 93, Academic 90, Quanitative 85, Verbal 72.
PCSM- 96.

Folks, this is why you never put all your eggs in one basket. I've been told by many people that I was pissing my money away geting all the ratings and an aviation degree, I could just go to UPT after I graduate and have the AF train me. Good thing I had a solid plan B.

You're with Des Moines? Any ideas on why the no interview? I wonder who they ARE interviewing for the yearly slot.

Sounds like some Guard BS to me.

They are having their UPT slot on schedule, nothing like it being delayed/cancelled, etc?

Re: Why you don\'t put all your eggs in 1 basket

I needed a letter from the hiring board to get my physical moving, he called today, "I'm gonna write the letter for you so you can get your physical done, but after talking to your section and my section, we're not going to interview you. I'd suggest you apply to other units..."
Sounds more like I pissed someone off somewhere, rather than the hiring board was cancelled. At least I can get the physical going.

The internship with Skywest has made me think twice about pilot training anyhow.

Did you talk to your flight chief or higher.....figure out what this "my people talked to your people" stuff is all about?

Re: Why you don\'t put all your eggs in 1 basket

Our sister squadron is switching airframes and a lot of their pilots want to come to my squadron to avoid retraining. They'll be going to the C17, and it will have more currency requirements than the C5 (airdrop, etc.) That may have something to do with it. But the way he said they weren't gonna interview me felt like a swift kick in the nuts.
I'll find out when I go in there monday

Re: Why you don\'t put all your eggs in 1 basket

Any chance of interviewing for a different unit?

Man, that IS a kick in the nuts...

Re: Why you don\'t put all your eggs in 1 basket

Any chance this is because of your aviation experience? It's been a long time ago but when I was in Air Force ROTC with a pilot slot they were very unhappy that I was also flying for a commuter. I was always at the bottom of any list they had (except for the screw-up list, top of that one

).

Course I would have made a very bad officer and not much of a gentleman.

Alas, but you are a gentleman AND a scholar...

Re: Why you don\'t put all your eggs in 1 basket

I'm gonna apply to 3 other reserve units at my base. I wouldn't think that it's aviation related, but a lot of people know I got an internship w/ Skywest. I'm gonna call the guy tomorrow and ask him point blank why I don't get to interview.

Re: Why you don\'t put all your eggs in 1 basket

Wow, those are awesome scores and times you have there to be applying with. I'm applying to some units around for the C130, and if I had those kind of scores (wish i did!) they would hire me in a second. Keep after it and you will get to fly for the Guard! Good luck.
