Lloyd I see you like your Treo. I just bought one, still trying to figure it out. How do I send you a txt message? I know how to receive email.

Man, I LOVE my Treo! It can take a while to learn all of it's little tricks, but once you do, you're in heaven! Have you ever used a Palm device before? That was my saving grace!!

To send a text message, just hit the button to the right of the 4-way controller. It should take you to the "Messaging" page. I'll send you one and you can reply to it!

There's also a "messaging" icon on the main applications screen. Hit that and it'll take you into the page.

Tech geek warning! Nerd talk ahead!
Also, I have a problem. My tenncom server has a POP server but not a SMTP (outgoing mail server.) This is because my web admin does not want spammers to use it for relaying junk mail.

Can I use the sprint-pcs server to send my emails? but still use my tenncom domain name?

Oh, yes - without a doubt! I had the same problem, but it's an easy work-around.

1. Open VersaMail

2. Open the drop-down menu, then go to "Accounts-->Account Setup".

3. Select your account from the list, then click "Edit"

4. Your Account name should be there, and the protocol should be "POP". Click "Next"

5. Your Username and password (For your incoming mail) should already be in place. Click next.

6. Your Email Address should be here, along with your incoming mail server. Your outgoing mail server should be "smtp.sprintpcs.com". Click next.

7. Click "Advanced"

8. Port should remain "110", no boxes checked. Click "Next".

9. Outgoing port should be "25", and you should check "Use Authentication (ESMTP). Your username will now be your Sprint PCS Vision username. It's in your phone, you can also get it by calling Sprint if you don'
t know it. Your password will be your PCS Vision password. Again, call Sprint if you don't know it.

10. Click "Done", and enjoy your email!!!

I've never heard of a company that doesn't allow outgoing mail...it's the whole point of email...to send AND receive

Actually not that uncommon. Alot of web-hosting companies (that just offer hosting) will only give you an outgoing mail server. By virtue of the fact that you already have internet access, you already have access to an SMTP server!

I think I recall something about 21 knots from groundschool. However, I can tell you with confidence that it can be landed safely on 3100 feet of runway with 26 knots of crosswing, gusting to 34. If only I'd had a piece of coal . . . :p

BTW I saw the panel your flying in those 210's in the bird strike photos. Are they all pretty much like that?

Oh, man- not even close. We have absolutely NO standardization in our fleet. We have some normally-aspirated, some turbo's, some with HSI's, some without, a few with DME, old radios, new radios . . . it's a potpourri!!

Yeah it can handle more wind stuck it at steady 30kt x wind comp after that you start to drift

At least you have TKS
But I did enjoy the 1.5hrs of the Beatles on the XM!

Dude, if you don't have STMP, chances are you probably have a "web hosting account".

Well of course I have a webhosting account. I host websites!

I use my roadrunner SMTP to go out from my home office, and I use my office SMTP to go out from there.

Lloyd's answer was perfect, but I just don't know how to find my Sprint PCS Vision uname and pword.

"Snakes on a plane, man!"

When someone told me this was the title of a movie I didn't belive it. Man they don't try anymore in Hollywood. What's Sam Jackson thinking?!

Speaking of crosswinds...tried to land the 'lane today with a 15 kt crosswind (gust to 23) 90 degrees off the runway, couldn't keep it from drifting. :(

Hey can the mail client on those Treo gadgets handle IMAP? That's probably a better option than POP for most people.

Aloft, sorry to get techie geeky, but yes it has IMAP option but I am not familiar with the differences. Could you lecture us for a minute?

I know POP means "Post Office Protocol" or at least I think I do.

For the sake of simplicity. POP, email is downloaded from the server (although you can check an option to leave a "copy" on the server) IMAP the email is left on the server and you "view" it with your email program, ie outlook, firefox, etc.

Good grief man, at least step into the 90's!

:(, I am still using good ole nextel walkie talkie thingy. poor flight instructor pay. :nana2:

Hey, Doug, got some spare money I can borrow to buy a new cell phone? I pay you back when you and Kristie come to GRR this summer.

Welcome to freight son.

Standardization is out the window! At the last cargo operator I flew for, we even had a Chieftain with a VLF/OMEGA nav system onboard.

The best is some of our Caravans have Marine band radios on them...go figure. Never been fitted for floats, as far as I know, either. We also have a Van with 2 ADF's, 2 VOR's, no DME. Why???

IMAP is nice, however I just have it configured to leave the message on the server. That way, nothing is lost!!!

Not all servers support IMAP . . . ;)

Blah. Who needs DME when you can do ADF/ADF triangulations?

:yeahthat:
No sense in downloading messages you have no interest in reading--obvious spam, etc. Plus, you can read your email via IMAP from your Treo, then download it onto your laptop later. That's how I'd use it, anyway. Froyd's right tho, not all mail servers support IMAP.

Now that's what I'm talking about. Right outta MikeDs book of old school livin'! Nothing like a ADF/ADF hold fix. Only thing better is an Fix-to-fix flown from one ADF/ADF to another, all on an a pair of RMIs.
