I've had a few of these over the years. I've been - I assume with many other unemployed/furloughed folk around here - pretty disenchanted with aviation for a while now (to catch everyone up, I've been looking unsuccessfully for CFI work since September). However, I had the opportunity to sign off one of my best students for his PPL checkride recently (long story short...I did 99% of his training, then moved, then was in town and flew a few times to sign him off). He passed Wednesday afternoon, called me up, and then sent me an e-mail about an hour ago...2:30 local time. I'd expect this from a younger student after a night out celebrating, but this student is older and married. He just woke up in the middle of the night and could not go back to sleep due to his excitement. I grew tired of stalls and steep turns a long time ago, but I will never get tired of this.
Just thought I'd throw out a late night positive story for the rest of you guys in the trenches. Coincidentally, my last melodramatic pause to appreciate aviation occurred at KAUS while watching T-38's take off at night. You guys that know me will understand why I bring that up
Epilogue: My English profs would kill me for this post, but hey it's a quarter to 4 so hopefully you guys can dig through the choppy sentences and inappropriate punctuation to understand what I mean.
