Gonna be a bumpy ride at best, possibly a very dangerous one at worst with that kind of windshear!

It may be cold in Denver but man it sure looks nice right now.

I think it is just going to get worse tonight too

If I go top the top of the washington monument do you think I could feel it sway at all?

Niiiiice, if you click on that link and then click on the front range tab, you can see the clouds tucked back behind the foothills that is probably bringing some snow to the volcanoes of the never summer range.

The sun is actually starting to pop through here in Crystal City now.

I'm sitting here in a warm crashpad just hoping my phone doesn't ring to make me go on a flight. My work shoes got SOAKED on the walk to my car in the employee lot last night. Just wait, our nice cold weather should be in DC later today or tonight if it hasn't arrived yet.

Tony, where do you fly out? I am heading to that direction - W29 for interview middle of next week.

I'm used to November being in the upper 50s. As I'm looking at snow swirls blowing on the ramp a gust just opened up the double glass doors again. Oh well....

Ohh man, I flew into ARR a few times last year this time, that place sucked! I had a nice ILS giong after a 3.5 hour flight and right when I took off the foggles, the tower had me switch runways from the long nice one to that short bumpy one which takes you away from the airport. It was one of my first landings from the right seat in the seminole and ugghhh it was sketchy. Flew out of there the next morning with winds at like 25 gusting to 45. It was pretty much down the runway but holy crap it was bumpy. For about the first hour of our flight to Springfield MO, it wasn't looking like we were going to be able to make it. About 4.5 hours later we managed to get there with no problems but we had a pretty good headwind for the first half of that flight. Anything over about 2 hours in a plane is too much for me unless the plane is big enough where I can get up and walk around for a few minutes. Good memories though!

On Sunday it was gusting to 40 as well. During slow flight we were getting 12 kts groundspeed and on final we were indicating 88 and groundspeed was 45-55.

Yikes, better be glad that wind didn't stop gusting. That was when I bring in the "half of the gust factor" rule.

Let's see how my day went today. Started in ORD, where it was gusty and snowing. Then went to CLE, where we got moderate ice during the entire approach, as well as gusty conditions. Then off to DCA, where we got ROCKED, and I mean ROCKED, going into the airport. Heavy rain, gusty winds, scattered heavy rainshowers around the airport... American and Amtran were basically telling approach "look, we aren't going there, period. It's borderline severe turbulence. Vector us to come in from the east" (which I might add was still continuous moderate/borderline severe). My leg too. :whatever: Back to CLE, more ice, more gusty winds. Oh, then to finish it off, a delayed three-hour leg to DFW.

What a day! :D

That's not important.

What's important is: Who is that girl in your avatar ??!?!?

Hey Chicaga, I was in one of those office buildings that overlook DCA last night. Around 1800-2000 was probably the worst time, I feel for ya. The odd thing though, around 1845 I noticed two planes on the ILS at the same time and there looked really close to each other. The second one, I am pretty sure was an MD-80, was doing S-turns so the RJish looking one in front could land. I have never heard of this before, seems dangerous to be doing S-turns coming in and out of the clouds. I think it was scattered at a thousand and OVC at 2000 at the time.

Anyone ever done this before or did I miss something in my instrument training?

On the charted visuals into DCA sometimes following the river you have to rock and roll a little but with the WX described I guess it was a visual portion after the ILS; and once the field is insight why not do the S-turns if needed? Got to be very careful after the LDA to 19 though!!
