Who gets to use the Air Force Roundel on their aircraft...

Re: Who gets to use the Air Force Roundel on their aircraft.

That's a national military insignia, but the Coast Guard uses it too.

So it's the U.S., National Roundel, but is sometimes probably (incorrectly) only associated with just the Air Force because its most up to date version came about upon the birth of the Air Force?

Not necessarily. All the services use it with the exception of the Army (they only have it on specific airframes such as the C-12s, and then sometimes not). The variations have been many over the past decades, from bright ones, to large and small ones (USN), to low-viz small ones both dashed and non-dashed, etc.

Now that we have done whipped the IJN/IJA I think they should bring back the meatball star as a retro thing. Kinda like the USAIR Piedmont, Allegheny and PSA liveries on the A320s.
