Which route to take?

I'm currently a freshman and I have my private, and my question is, since I have 3 more years or more to get a degree out of the way, would I be better off transferring to a known university such as North Dakota etc... ? or staying where I'm at getting a degree and getting training at a non 141 FBO say called "Joe's Flight School".

Would I be better off 1) going to a University getting a business degree like Norh Dakota's Aviation Management where I'll earn the ratings and a non aviation degree at a nationally known school. 2) Go to a regular university getting some kind of degree and going to a local FBO around campus 3) Finishing the degree and then go to a nationally known flight school and get the training done in a year or less.

There are so many options out there and I'd like to know the best route to take because I don't want to become a career instructor. I want the route that will get me someplace in life so after 5 years of college and training I can be living on my own.

I would like to hear from what you have to say.

Stay where you've comfortable. No need to go and spend the big bucks when you can get the same product at home.

I can't stay here because the local instructor only trains one day a week and I have to go someplace to get a degree, so no matter what I'll be going someplace.

There are plenty of options. You're always going to need a back up plan, so I'm not saying steer away from an aviation degree, but when times get tough in the industry it's nice to earn a living if you can't do it flying.

There are lots of universities that have nice FBO's around so you could major in something else other than aviation. I went to a state school and I can always teach if I lose my job. Lot's of my friends who went to Riddle here in DAB are over 100 grand in debt and they can't get other jobs outside of flight instructing.

Food for thought.

I'm a proponent of the non-aviation degree and flying at "Joe's" while in college. Get your CFI ASAP and instruct to build time. I know a guy that did it that way and got on at Delta before he was 30.

Alot of people did that pre 9/11 and that was when you could get into the majors. Jobs are hard to find these days. And I am going to get a non aviation degree, which will be in business.

I don't have much time to post now, but I'll be quick and post more later. The aviation management degree at UND is a business degree awarded by the business college, not the Odegard School of Aeronautics. It is entirely possible to end up with 3 degrees from the UND in 5 years if you choose this option, 2 being business, and 1 in commercial aviation.

This is possible because the Aviation Management degree requires a business core for all business majors. So you could get another degree like Business Management, Aviation Management, and some of the required classes for Aviation Management are requirements for the Commercial Aviation Degree. It would take a lot of work, but since these majors have common classes, it wouldn't be hard to accomplish this.

I hope this makes sense.

Where are you currently training out of? If your at WSU then I would assume Greene County. There are a ton of different FBO's around our area that have good reputations. I flew out of Dayton South when I was in high school. Check out Aviation Sales Inc. Never had any qualms about the equiptment or quality of instruction I got there.

I'm planning on transferring to some other school in Ohio, Ball State, or UND. Also, you miss understood me from awhile go, I go to Wright State's branch campus to save some money and get those gec's out of the way. I got my ratings at the airport I'm from about 40 miles north of Dayton before I started college. Sorry about the misunderstanding.

Gotcha!

When you come up here I'd be more than happy to take ya around campus, just shoot me a PM when your gonna be here.
