Which Instrument Instructor Written Should I Take?

Hi,

I currently have MEI and CFI and am working on my CFII. I see there are two different tests for instrument airplane instructor. One is the Flight Instructor Instrument Airplane (FII) and the other, Flight Instructor Instrument Airplane (added rating) (AIF). So, which written test should I be taking?

Thanks for your help!

You will most likely need to take the Flight Instructor Instrument Airplane (FII) test. The added rating test is for those who already have an instrument helicopter rating on their CFI certificate and want to add a cfii airplane.

The FII test is almost identical to the instrument written you've already taken. The only difference is it is 50 questions instead of 60 and the question bank has a few additional questions that apply specifically to instrument instructors (EX: when can a cfii log instrument time?). I know because I recently had the pleasure of taking it.
