Which airline is this?

This is a quote from a website that gives information about the dispatching field. The airline appears to only hire internal candidates. This quote is about an airline that is not named. Which one is it?

"...at one of the nations largest airlines, candidates are selected from within the company. The average successful candidate has 15-20 years of seniority within the airline with supervisory experience in a variety of operational areas. This airline does not hire outside of the company." http://www.dispatcher.org/salary (5th paragraph)

That's from the ADF website and if I told you which airline it was referring to specifically I'd have to kill you, but... It's probably a major airline and it's probably in ATL.

Also that information is slightly old but not as far off base as some might think.

Without referring to the specific airline mentioned, I don't know of any US carrier that only hires dispatchers internally any more. There were a couple that did so for a long time (and I'm sure they still do hire people internally, just not exclusively.)

And to follow suit and not name that airline, I know for a fact that is old news... Of course internals are probably a first choice and have a major advantage over externals.

Airline hiring at both the majors and regionals are based on what the hiring people want in a new hire. I know of several airlines including at least one major that tend to follow a "what works best" or a safest bet philosophy in terms of hiring. One bad new hire class or employee from any source can sour hiring managers on bringing in new people from that place. Conversely, if new hires from certain sources tend to do very well then it makes those people seem like a safe bet to be good dispatch employees. A change in management also can easily mean a change in hiring philosophy. Thus an airline that hires only internally can easily look for externals. It all depends on who is making the hiring decisions.

Keeping said airline anamous, they just hired 18 external dispatchers and look to hire many more externally in the next few years.

So MT, if what you say is true, and I have no reason to doubt you, did they post the openings somewhere? (Anonymous. FYI). Cuz if it is the company that everyone seems to be naming without naming.....then I never saw a job posting.

Oh yeah...that. I rely too much on those slippery web crawler job search thingys..... I realize they not only pick up the lint...but they also miss some good stuff. Thanks WP73.
BTW....aren't you at work!!?

I'm curious why we're not naming the carrier formerly known as Huff-Dayland Dusters?? Is there something in the TOS or will I be forever banned from working there??? I get it though, "Flight Superintendent" does sound way more impressive than "Dispatcher" to the general public?
