Where to get PPL in Sarasota / Venice FL area?

Hey guys, it looks like this forum is more geared to the higher end certificates but maybe someone will have some info on places to go for the PPL. I'm in Sarasota FL. The Sarasota airport along with the Venice FL airports are fairly close to me. Does anyone have a recommendation as to a good place to go to get my PPL certificate? Thanks!

There is a new flight school opening at KVNC where the old Huffman Aviation flight school used to be. They have remodeled the building. I don't know any specifics or pricing.

I would stay away from Florida Flight Training.

Thanks a lot for the info. I will check them out. For some reason I got a bad feeling about FFT. maybe it's the picture of that guy on the website with the slicked back hair. They seem very corporate.

Nice to see another Sarasotan. :)

There are some good opportunities to fly if you're willing to go up into St. Pete as well.

I, too, looked into some training options there a year or so ago, and I was not pleased with what I saw. You'd think with all the money down there GA would be booming...

Hey KillBilly, nice to meet you as well! Did you look into the Venice area schools like Blue Sky Aviation? How about Cirrus Aviation in Sarasota?

I'm currently attending cirrus aviation, and it's pretty good. The staff is very nice. If you choos to go to Cirrus, make sure you request Jose Santos as your instructor. He's one o the best they have. Cirrus has just purchased a Piper Seminole, which is their first Twin Engine. Cirrus + Flight Training + Jose Santos= Happy, successful flying.:yup:

Oh yeah one more thing, is this perhaps Steven from Mrs. Browns class?

Is Jones Aviation still in business down there in Sarasota?

I never did flight training there but rented some planes and actually worked there one summer. It seemed like a pretty good FBO at the time, but that was a while ago.

It seemed like Cirrus is one of the more expensive options for flight training in this area. Did you do their ground school? From what I gather it appears they do a computer based ground school. How was it? They are very close to where I work so that's a plus.

I think Jones changed their name to Volo Aviation. Or maybe someone bought them out. I haven't called them yet but do intend to do so.

Sorry to say, but Jones is now Volo Aviation. They were sold to some comany around 2-4 years ago. When the new company bought them out, the stopped all of the training. The only FBO in Sarasota, or at SRQ for that matter, is Cirrus Aviation at Dolphin.

Yeah I'm not sure about the prices. I mean, I havent had another FBO to compare them to. But yes, all of the ground school is computer based. It's very easy. I love it. You can work at your own pace. My instructor is a veteran, and doesn't really inforce any specific due dates for ground school lessons. He checks my progree probably every two to three weeks. I'm not sure about the rookies, or the newer instructors. But Cirrus is a very good place to train. If you think the prices are a little high, just maje sure you have a good, or decent instruct that knows what he/she is doing, and get it done fast. Jose Sntos is very good, and he knows his S***T. Personally, I love the guy for his expertise in this field of work.:nana2:
