When did you make it to Regionals/Freight Job

PVT at 19
Commercial, "graduate" college at 21
Slight "detour" until CFI at 30
Freight at 32

And, what is this "hair cut" y'all speak of???:)

Regional (we called them commuters back then) at 23
Regional Captain at 23 (commuters were a two year max back then which made upgrades faster)
Major at 24
Furloughed (first time) at 26
Non-Sched DC-9 Captain at 28 (furloughs aren't all bad as long as you don't give up)
Non-Sched MD-80 Captain at 30
Foreign MD-80 Captain at 30
Foreign MD-90 Check Airman at 33
Furloughed from Major for second time at 37
Foreign B777 Captain at 39

Lessons to be learned here: 1) If you truly want to fly for a career keep trying and you'll eventually get a good job, 2) Only use a regional to get 1000 PIC, after that get out and never go back, 3) Networking got me all of those jobs except the Major and, 4) Foreign jobs are a great fallback plan.

And ya call that a haircut? That'd have gotten the barber's ass kicked back in my day.

Speaking of haircuts, time for another trip to the hood to get one next week.

Thats the toughest part about flying gigs for me.
I haven't found a place to get a haircut out here yet! I be darned if I drive all the way to Compton to get a haircut. I usually can get one down in MYF within walking distance of the crash pad whenever I'm down there, which is rare. Luckily, I should be in Oakland all this week! I know there will be somewhere there!

Most airlines I've seen require you to be atleast 21.

Are you planning on instructing? I'd be cautious about such predictions. ;)

FALSE, Air Wisconsin has hired as low as 18, that I'm sure of.

Also, according to a good friends of mine, whos sister was a US Airways flight attendant, they had a 737 FO who was 18.

Only a couple of airlines have that rule.

According to Pilotjobs.com, the following do not require you to be 21: ExpressJet, Colgan, TSA, PSA, Piedmont, Skyway, Big Sky, Commutair, and Airnet. Everybody else, including Mesa surprisingly, require you to be 21. So, that's more than 1/2 of the "entry-level" jobs that require you to be 21, with Cape Air requiring you to be 23 (at least more than 1/2 of the places on pilotjobs.com web site).

they charge me 20 dollars a cut at the barber shop so I cut my own hair and have someone edge up the back for me.

I was thinking about doing this because my dad was a barber so I got used to free haircuts growing up... the problem is finding someone you trust enough to edge it up right :D

Half of my class didn't have the "required" minimums for my company (as posted on their web site and pilotjobs.com), so I'm not sure I'd put that much stock in that web site.

Hiring practices vary according to need. Supply, meet demand. I'm not defending Smitty, but just because a web site has "minimums" listed doesn't mean they are hard and fast.

Also, I knew quite a few mesa guys who weren't even close to 21 who were hired there.

Considering the most junior FO at USAir is probably a mid-1980's hire... :)

I'll have to dig up that specific stat from my colleague over at America West.

That is fine and dandy that "some" people were able to get around the rule. My point was simply a response to Smittey, not defending anybody's posts, or arguments.

This is not true...quite a few airlines have this "rule". Whether they follow their minimums when they are trying to get bodies in the seats is another topic, along with whether they hire below 21 years of age. It is a minimum requirement on most of their web sites and on Pilotjobs.com, as previously posted. I am not saying they don't sometimes look the other way, or to not put the application in. I'm simply responding to his statement.

And, for the record, I believe MOST majors back in the day required people to be 21 years old. Yes, some people may have slipped through during the hiring booms, but, for the most part, they, in the past, liked to see people over 21.

If you're calling me a liar, I suggest you rethink your position. The 18 year old FO at US Airways had a VERY senior captain father. He was furloughed after 9/11.

Your source at HP will confirm it Doug, without a doubt.

Merit,

Why would you use PilotJobs.com? Are you nuts? That website is less updated than MoveOn.org. Go to the respective airline's website and look at their minimum qualifictions.
