When did you get your License?

Hey everyone,

I was just curious as to when everyone got their PPL. I am in my senior year and really want to get my PPL but I just don't like being in debt and I know its kinda part of life but thats how I am. I took out a 6 grand loan and its just kinda sitting there until I decide what to do with it. Just want to know how everyone else did it.

Thanks

Did mine at my local airport the summer after I graduated from high school. In fact, I took my first flight lesson the day after I graduated. It was one of the smartest, most fun things I've done. I hit it hard and had my private certificate by early August.

I was fortunate to have my parents pay for all of it. If that's not an option for you, be careful about getting too far into debt. My advice is to take out a loan for a small amount, hit training hard and get done with a certificate or rating fast. Then work for a while, pay off your loan, take out another loan, hit training hard, knock out another rating, then go back to work and start the cycle over again.

I worked my butt off for 4 years in high school and took lessons once or twice a month. Not very efficient, but it was the only way to get it done since my folks refused to pay. Soloed on my 16th birthday and got the private at 17 and a senior in high school. Good luck!

Disovery flight on April 12th 2001, got my PPL in Oct 2001. I was 24. I got my private with the tax free money I saved up in the Arabian Gulf and in the Adriatic, plus my re-enlistment bonus. ($10,000 tax free!:nana2: )

I started flying when I was 16 and got the PPL when I turned 17. I was fortunate enough to have my parents pay for about half of my PPL. Once I got that is was all on my own. That is when the debt started and I started taking everyone I knew on flights just so I could log hours cheaper.

Got my intro flight when I was 16 and my cert when I turned 17. Then I got my IR when I turned 18 and sadly it dosn't look like I'm on track for my commercial when I turn 19, but i'll still try. Luckly, like a few others here, I was able to have the financial backing of my parents to help ease the pain, but whenever they picked up the bill I would start to feel guilty and I'd try to compensate that by helping my parents save money and be "economical".

Intro Flight-August 4, 2004
PPL-March 11, 2005, I was 20 years old.
IR-August 19, 2005
Comm.-Feb. 13, 2006
CFI-August 1, 2006
CFII-Sep. 29, 2006

17th birthday, 2000. Got my instrument rating the same month (started flying at 14, so my CFI didn't stop at the end of the PP-ASEL syllabus). Had to get signed off for 50 hours worth of PIC XC.

Very fortunate to have financially supportive parents... who made me work at the GAP to supplment their contributions. The GAP!!!!
