What's your idea of a family "vehicle"?

Flew my wife out to Palm Springs for a concert and a little time away from the baby. As I am in the FBO paying the gas bill, a nice gentleman is standing along side me paying his Jet A gas bill as well. We get to chattin' about where we're headed. He's from Denver, CO and just out in Palm Springs for a little "family time" himself.

He asked what kind of plane I flew in and I pointed out to our shiny, G1000 equipped 182. I return the same question and he point's out to his $3M Pilatus PC-12. As I look out, I see his wife and two kids walking up the air stairs. He goes on to tell me he flies it out from Denver to New York often to see family.

Must be nice as hell to just load up his little "family vehicle" and fly away in style.

Anyone have $3M they want to loan me?

I will eventually, we just have to wait for that California lottery to act right. Then again, the lottery might not even help since the governor may force me to loan the state the money for the deficit.
 
I was thinking a B200 or a TurboCommander 1000 with the big motors (-12 I think--I'd be lovin' the flat rating), but that's just me.

Here I was thinking about a minivan vs. SUV comparison or something. When I was working on my Private I was talking to a guy (young, like mid-30s) getting ready to fly from Gateway to Heber City, UT on his King Air.

Must be nice.
 
Gulfstream all the way, baaaaby. Now I just have to scrape up the cash and hire a couple of pilots and I'm all set!

A Pilatus will out perform both of those planes, granted the 1000 with -10s is a little faster. I would love to have a Pilatus. I just got back a few minutes ago from a trip with six passengers which is pretty cramped in the Conquest. The PC12 would have been perfect! But there is a reason they are sold out until 2012 and the used ones cost so much! Anyway, my idea of a family airplane has always been a Cherokee 6 or Cessna 206.

Oh but wait, I bet he has to work in a cubicle!
 
Pilatus for a little extra space. The TBM 850 would be nice too. Though something like a King Air 350 would be perfect to take your family and your friend's family. (What's the point in having your own personal plane if you can't show off to your buddies. :) ) Ultimately though something with the brand name "Gulfstream" stamped on the fuselage would be ideal. . . . . Dream on.

I've got about 200 hours in meridians and they are hardly a family airplane. Full fuel useful load is about 500 pounds and the only baggage space is what's behind the rear seats and it's limited to 100 pounds.

PC-12 is a great airplane. Lots of room, decent baggage space. But I worked for a PC-12 dealer and when I quit there in November, the soonest you could take posession of a PC-12 was late 2010. I'm sure it's pushed back even farther than that now and they're starting to push $4M.

I'm not sure if I'll ever own an airplane, but if I do, I think I'd want two. A J-3 Cub or Super Cub for having fun in and a Baron or Bonanza for going places.
