I was a 9E dispatcher for a year. Overall, I enjoyed working there but there were some very cryptic things happening around the office when I was on my way out that made me a little uneasy and left me feeling like I probably got out at a good time. Ultimately I left because MEM is, in my opion, a steaming cesspool and the commute from STL was next to impossible. (I made a 600 mile round trip every week by car because there just aren't seats going to MEM) The move down down was a sore spot for alot of people, from a safety standpoint anyway. When I was offered a dispatch position in MSP, I fell all over myself... couldn't get out of that city fast enough! Most people left to take jobs at bigger airlines or to take jobs closer to home. Sadly, there were also some who just didn't have th chops for dispatch....it happens. All in all though, if you're looking for a good place to start, 9E doesnt just get your feet wet...they pick you up by your ankles and dunk you in head first. They are a BIG airline with many airplanes and many flights. To say that it can get chaotic at times is an understatement...a good environment for getting you accustomed to this career. Ultimately, its your choice. At least go to the interview and see what they can offer you, take a chance to tour the facility and meet someone of the people on the floor. Its all about how the environment makes you feel. Even though they have a high turnover rate, 9e has some great people who have made their entire careers there.
Good luck in what ever you decide to do.
