What's wrong with Pinnacle?

Can someone shed some light on why they are so desperate? Why is their turnover rate so high? All I've heard is the prior location was bad. Any comments appreciated. Thanks.

Good question. I think the biggest problem was the company beating the piss out of the employees, blaming the employees, then beating them again. The pay was crap compared to other carriers, and people just lost interest in helping them out or staying around. Thus, high turnover. The new CEO is supposedly going to fix everything (he who signs his name Sean) and he won't. It's a ----hole, and the best thing that happened to the employees was Trenary's departure. It might be different someday, who knows, but probably not. In the meantime there's a lot of good people here, and some bad, and we are trying to hold the operation together.

Ah dispatch! I'm not terribly qualified on the dispatch side but it seems like people we have here just starting out enjoy it. Probably worth you time. Plus Memphis is cheap as hell to live in.

Thanks. I think there's a reason for that ;)
Of course there's a reason for that. I lived in the Northeast for some 15 years and you know what? Cheaper is better when you are young.

Anyway there's a lot of good things about Memphis, I'd be glad to list them off. If you have children you should move to a suburb or MS (Olive branch or Southhaven). What do I know though, 3000 square foot house for 1/3 the price of what I'd pay in the Northeast and Bartlett TN has a great school district if I ever do have kids. Everyones different, people stay about 5 years and move on (probably what I'll) for the most part. Others stay and live it out.

You've gotta make your own decision on that.

Sitdown I sent you a PM with what I have discovered during my application process with them.

I should of googled before I asked. There is a chance Delta will not renew their contracts. A chapter 11 filing will soon follow. Nice...

Should of googled a little bit before asking. I guess there's possible non renewel of delta contracts with an impending chapter 11. Nice....

I just love having people who can't write at a middle school English level checking my weather and calculating my reserve fuel needs for me before I depart.

I was a 9E dispatcher for a year. Overall, I enjoyed working there but there were some very cryptic things happening around the office when I was on my way out that made me a little uneasy and left me feeling like I probably got out at a good time. Ultimately I left because MEM is, in my opion, a steaming cesspool and the commute from STL was next to impossible. (I made a 600 mile round trip every week by car because there just aren't seats going to MEM) The move down down was a sore spot for alot of people, from a safety standpoint anyway. When I was offered a dispatch position in MSP, I fell all over myself... couldn't get out of that city fast enough! Most people left to take jobs at bigger airlines or to take jobs closer to home. Sadly, there were also some who just didn't have th chops for dispatch....it happens. All in all though, if you're looking for a good place to start, 9E doesnt just get your feet wet...they pick you up by your ankles and dunk you in head first. They are a BIG airline with many airplanes and many flights. To say that it can get chaotic at times is an understatement...a good environment for getting you accustomed to this career. Ultimately, its your choice. At least go to the interview and see what they can offer you, take a chance to tour the facility and meet someone of the people on the floor. Its all about how the environment makes you feel. Even though they have a high turnover rate, 9e has some great people who have made their entire careers there.

Good luck in what ever you decide to do.

Krystal, did you wind up going to Compass? If so when did you get on with them?
Krystal, if you did get on at Compass, may I ask what your experience w/ them has been so far? Pay, schedules, the good and not so good....Much appreciated...and best regards....MP

Pinnacle has a high turnover rate because pay is low, we have 50-60 or more flights to release, do all the weight and balance, and deal with management, gate agents and pilots that constantly are hounding us. I mean on a VFR day we will get a half dozen phone calls from pilots and gate agents that cant read their release or load sheet. On a bad weather day, the phone will ring nonstop and then maintenance will defer half the plane, the pilots will ask the fuelers to add a few hundred pounds more making you re-release a flight that is now overweight, blocked out of the gate and with a jumpseater. On top this, you have to close out the numbers for all the ACARS inop flights and read the crews their numbers. All the while you will have two flights diverting.

People can only take the stress of that so much. We recently in the past year had two dispatchers that had a heart attacks or heart trouble on the job.

The company cares so much about you that they ask us to take a 7% pay cut or they will take 20% from us in bankruptcy court. If you have an issue with a flight, duty managers will pressure you to release illegal flights so the company can make D0.
