Re: What\'s the difference?

Off topic here, but how can you tell the difference for example between a 737-500 and -600? Or how about 767-100 and -300? And so on. Or is it very difficult to spot it out?
I can only tell if it is a 737,757,etc. but not the -300,-500,etc. part of the model #. I can only find that out by looking online.

The 737 "classic" series is quite similar to the "new generation. The 737-500 is characterized by:
powerplant: 2 General Electric/SNECMA CFM56 turbofans
seats: up to 170 passengers (737-400)
cruise speed: 440 kts
distinctive features: large engine intakes are flattened at the bottom for ground clearance, not perfectly circular like most turbofan engines
the 737-600 is characterized by:
powerplant: 2 General Electric/SNECMA CFM56-7B
seats: up to 177 passengers (737-900)
cruise speed: 440 kts
distinctive features: looks very similar to "classic" 737 series; wingspan is nearly 8 feet longer, tail 5 feet taller, aircraft sits nearly 18" higher on the main gear so that the engine intake shape is more nearly rounded than 300/400/500.
