have flown only twice in the last month and have had 5 lessons cancelled within 2.5 weeks due to the tempremental WX of the northeast US. Anyone else ever been in this boat, anyways just venting

, well happy flying to those fortunate enough.

Ryan, you just got to stick it out. I'm not sure where you're at in your training but when the weather moved in in the Northwest I would observe IFR flights of other students even though I was still working on my ppl. It sucks going a month without doing anything but there's always the flip side of flying 7 days a week when the weather is good. You just have to make up for it when the wx clears. For now you could pull the FAR/AIM out from beside the toilet and brush up on your sleep therapy!

You're not the only person in the North East

I think every aviator has been in that position, I live in Socal and had was signed off for my x-c solo's in December I needed 2 of them, and I did not manage to complete them both until May 1st! That was scheduling it three times a week where possible.

I know Ed, has a similar story..........

My husband has been a few hours away from his commercial rating since last Sept. thanks to cancelled flights. Mostly for bad weather but also for a bad FBO. Just hang in there!

As everyone else said, hang in there. I trained here in the NE and started at the end of Oct 2002. That was right before a harsh winter that kept me grounded numerous times . . . there's nothing you can do about the weather except stick it through . . .

. . . do keep up on your ground school and FAR/AIM, it's something I wish I had done more often, now I often feel like I'm illiterate with the FAR/AIM watching others throw out the numbers with ease.

Try being away from flying for 5 months due to a military deployment, talk about serious withdrawls.

Hang in there, it will improve!

well i feel much better now. I am gonna try this again in wednesday which is supposed to be really nice. It is also better that this happens b/c it allows for more ground school proficiency and I also enjoy flying even more when I realize what it is like when I am not flying. what can i say i am addicted, I dont think i'm the only one in here that can say the same, happy flying

I lost four flights over the weekend because of the weather; and that's in sunny Arizona! Sometimes, you just have to stay on the ground. I worked on my Private Certificate in Illinois and that took almost a year on and off because of the weather, so don't feel too bad!

yeah Mate, You have to hang in there.
Im in Oz where the weather is ussually really good, but yet still ive missed plenty of NAVS due weather.

Its just a part of the process the way i see it.

Cant help the weather mate!

I have the NorthEast bug to deal with also. I started my PPL last May and can't even count the number of flights that had to be cancelled. The wind is the number one factor for this for me. Of course, us NorthEasterners, (is that a word) will be proficient in those cross wind landings. I believe I've only had 3-4 hours where I didn't have to deal with a decent crosswind, and that's out of about 45 hours that I have in the book. As everyone else has said, stick it out, the nice weather is right around the corner.

Yeah, buddy! It's supposed to be gorgeous tomorrow -- highs in the mid 50s, and lower winds. Sure, there will be a crosswind, but no worries, it will be less than 15 knots.
